Members Sean_Reynolds Posted June 4, 2015 Members Posted June 4, 2015 Are you fishing Norfolk? One of those fish was norfork (the bottom one), I fish all over though. Ive caught stripers in 3 different states in the last week
navery Posted June 4, 2015 Posted June 4, 2015 I was out they last Wednesday night with 10"live Shad and nothing either. Two were flat lines and two were running about a foot off the bottom. I was also throwing a big swimbait here and there. Hopefully I will get lucky one of these trips. I have had five big ones hooked up over the last two seasons, but none landed. One got into the fence and broke me off when the water was really high two summers ago. Another head shook on the surface and through the hook. The others were on lures and were lost due to slack and no trailer hook while handing the rod to my wife to reel it in. Oh well, the chase is half the fun and it's always nice to be on the water! navery Posted June 4, 2015 Posted June 4, 2015 I have a hard time finding bait down there. I usually bring mine with me in my bait tank. I sometimes find them in swan, but rarely and can't count on it. Don't like driving an hour and a half then not be able to find bait.
Members NianguaMark Posted June 12, 2015 Members Posted June 12, 2015 You guys ever fish for these on lake of the ozarks? I seen the big lures at local sporting goods store and thought what the heck is that for now I know.
fishinwrench Posted June 12, 2015 Posted June 12, 2015 Mark, they stopped stocking stripers in LO quite awhile back but there is apparently some natural reproduction cuz we catch a few of all different sizes. Not enough to justify targeting them though. Hybrids are stocked on the upper Osage and occasionally in the Niangua arm.
navery Posted June 12, 2015 Posted June 12, 2015 I fish for hybrids on Truman and upper LOZ. Like wrench said, I didn't think they had stocked them for awhile but always here of a couple being caught from time to time. Didn't know if this was people confusing them with hybrids? Hybrids are just as fun though and we regularly catch some in excess of 10 lbs.
Members NianguaMark Posted June 12, 2015 Members Posted June 12, 2015 I've seen a dead one floating around my friends dock at the 2mm of the big niangua. Why did they stop stocking them do you know?
fishinwrench Posted June 12, 2015 Posted June 12, 2015 Each lake gets one "pet project species", and for LO they have chosen stupid Spoonbill. So we get no more stripers. It's kind of lame because Stripers provide a year-round opportunity and benefit whereas Spoonbill can only be pursued for a few weeks each year, plus we have an overabundance of large shad that the Stripers could eat. Probably the decision of some dipshit biologist that doesn't even realize (or care) that our white bass population is in grave danger.
