MeatintheFreezer
I fished down river from CC yesterday afternoon with my wife from 4:30 til dark and caught 9 keepers, maybe that many more shorts. Had tons of short bites, as soon as I would lift they would turn lose. I couldn't figure out how to get 'em to hang on to it. Water temp was 68. What we did catch, we caught on chartreuse. Remember - If at first you DO succeed, try not to act surprised & quit while you're ahead.
slab slinger
Try adding a crappie nibble to your bait or applying bobby garland slab jam or someother kinda scent may help with the fish not holding on. Might be fishing to small of a hook? I use up to a 1/0 hook in my 16th and 8th oz heads with great hook up rate on crappie. Everyone thinks small and ultralight for crappie. Not me i fish with big hooks and big baits most of the time and only down size if i have to. The 3" bobby garland slab slayr is a big bait and i catch alot of fish on it. Even 8-9" fish will hit this bait as well as huge slabs. I get some crazy looks using such a big bait for crappie but it works for me.
Sac River Jim
Caught quite a few tonight around 6:30. Up lake from cc. It was windy but calmed down as it got closer to dark. Turkeys gobbling everywhere. I managed 15 short crappie, 3 small keepers(released them), and one very nice largemouth that gave me a nice ride. Minnows 4ft under a slip bobber. Ten feet off the bank in 12 fow nice rig!!!!!! Members Rick Baker
Thanks Jim. I get the best night of sleep I've ever had every time after paddling that thing around. Sac River Jim
