Lance34 Posted May 4, 2015 Posted May 4, 2015 Seems to be the most consistent way for me to catch them when I'm able to go this spring. Today was the first time in a fews weeks that I have finally been able to go. Water temp was 67-68. I stayed out in 20 feet of water pushing minnows 2-3 full cranks off the bottom. Caught 14, 5 really nice females that still appeared to have eggs. The rest where 10-11 inches and a few little over achievers. Not the best day in numbers with size but I was glad to finally get back on the water. A fella that was fishing from the bank gladly took them off my hands. Question, is it looking like their going to reabsorb their eggs again this year?
Ham Posted May 4, 2015 Posted May 4, 2015 So, how fun is the spider rigging when you drag thru a school of white bass? Every Saint has a past, every Sinner has a future. On Instagram @hamneedstofish
Lance34 Posted May 4, 2015 Author Posted May 4, 2015 Got into them that way for first time several weeks ago. I never had more than one on at a time, just constantly one at a time. Made for a busy fun day. The challenge that day was trying to keep them out of other lines. Luckily the mess I caught that day only once did my lines get tangled. I was able to sling them over quickly since I wasn't very deep.
Ham Posted May 4, 2015 Posted May 4, 2015 I would think that you'd run into a deal where all 6 (or 8) lines would have a white bass on and it would be a huge fubar with a lot of re-rigging involved. I'm sure its fun, but I'm going to try to keep from picking that habit up. Every Saint has a past, every Sinner has a future. On Instagram @hamneedstofish
Lance34 Posted May 4, 2015 Author Posted May 4, 2015 Boy that would be a cluster! I would say here you go, have at it guys take the rods too! Ham 1
JohnF52 Posted May 4, 2015 Posted May 4, 2015 Would a 12 foot surf rod work OK for spider rigging if equipped with light line?
J-Doc Posted May 4, 2015 Posted May 4, 2015 Would a 12 foot surf rod work OK for spider rigging if equipped with light line? Probably not. Lol!!! You need a very limp rod for rigging because the target species has a soft mouth. A surf rod hookset could launch them into orbit if their mouth could take the shock and awe. Lol Need marine repair? JohnF52 Posted May 4, 2015 Posted May 4, 2015 How about the 12 ft Mr Crappie poles that come equipped with a reel that is just a spool with a crank?
Members uofastudent Posted May 4, 2015 Members Posted May 4, 2015 That would definitely work. But it's about to be crank bait pulling season for crappie. Trolling bandit 300s will work well too.
JohnF52 Posted May 4, 2015 Posted May 4, 2015 My rod holders are set up on the right side of the boat for fixed fishing or sideways drift fishing for catfish. I guess sideways drifting for crappie might work too if the rods are on the downwind side of the boat and the bait is leading the boat. Am I completely wrong here?
