Fished a club tournament this weekend Sat and Sun. Our club allows trailering, so we can put in at any ramp. I decided to fish "up the river" in the dirtier water. Found fish shallow on spawning flats and cuts/coves or just outside those areas. Caught all fish in less than 5ft of water and most in less than 2ft. Water had good color and about 2ft visibility mostly in upper 60 deg range. Caught most on a soft plastic brush hog type bait in green pumpkin pitched in the bushes. Bite was extremely light and didn't feel most of them hit. Missed quite a few. Caught a few on spinnerbait, but they were just slapping at it. Again I had several decent fish hit and hooked just long enough to know it was a fish and then they were gone. Caught 11 keepers over the 3 days including prefishing and lots of shorts. My 8 keepers weighed in the tournament just over 18lbs which got me 2nd place out of 12 and just under a pound out of first. My average fish up the river was 2.25lbs vs 1.8lbs for the guys fishing the clear water. Big fish for our tournament for 2 days of 12 teams was just over 3lbs. Not sure where the big ones went, but overall it was a bit tough for most in our club. The wind helped the clear water guys on Sunday, but still mostly just 15 inch keepers. As we all know, the fish change on a daily basis. It is always nice to have people share what they have had success with. You guys that share on here are the minority and it is appreciated. That at least gives you a place to start. But ultimately everyone has to figure out what works for themselves.
