ten_scoach Posted May 13, 2015 Posted May 13, 2015 Does anyone know of a shop that sells minnows by weight somewhere between Springfield and Stockton lake? Tired of buying by the number and wondering if I get a fair count. By weight both sides get a fair deal. There's no bad counts. The gas station down in cape fair sells a quarter pound for around 5$. It ends up being around 6 dozen. It's a good deal.
slab slinger Posted May 13, 2015 Posted May 13, 2015 Trantham's bait in Springfield was the only bait shop i know of between spfd and Stockton. They are closed now so i don't know anywhere else that does. I would buy a pound from him for 18 bucks. A pound of crappie minnows was around 22 to 24 doz. They usually only sell by the doz so they make more profit. They all buy by the pound and sell by the doz. But i like to have minnows when the bite gets tough.
sandbc Posted May 13, 2015 Posted May 13, 2015 I cant help with your question but all in all I think just about every bait shop gives you more than you pay for. some shops just give you way more and that spoils us for the next time when our minnow buckets dont look so crowded. for example (I wont name the shops) there is one at pomme that gives me at least 8 dozen when I order 2 or 3. One at stockton gives me more than I pay for but just doesnt look like it. Now there is one in springfield that when you order 2 dozen thats exactly what you get plus they are $1 higher. I live in springfield and to my knowledge there is nowhere to buy minnows between there and CC ramp. C-store in everton used to sell them but didnt always have any or the water was nasty and they would die. Hated to see the guy on the other side of CC bridge close up already. when I lived at clinton and fished truman my dad would buy them for $6 a pound and we had our own tank and aireator. we figured it was well over a thousand minnows. oh well just my thoughts. good luck finding bulk minnows.
waterpossum Posted May 13, 2015 Posted May 13, 2015 This probably won't help if you live to the east of Stockton, but hands down the best bait shop especially for crappie is Buds Bait in Carthage. www.budsbait.com or phone 417-358-6119. If your ever by there it would be worth your time .

Members capndan Posted May 17, 2015 Members Posted May 17, 2015 You are spoiled aren't you ha! I need to go get some and keep in my ornamental pond but makes my wifey kind of mad. I will have to get crafty and hide the cage under the waterfall this time! When we Gonna do the May late Crappie haul?

He has every Bobby Garland bait that they make. He's a real nice guy that originally just worked there to help his father in law, but when he passed he resigned himself to keep the business going and it is thriving. He sells a lot on line and has a broad range in the four states delivering live bait. Sac River Jim 1
ten_scoach Posted May 23, 2015 Author Posted May 23, 2015 So if I bought buy the pound and put in a tank, assuming they're maintained, how long do they live?
