Beautiful coachwhip. They tend to be a little high strung, meaning they will bite when you mess with them but they are non-venomous, and pretty darn fast when they want to be.

His was 12 feet long

Now that's a for real snake. Love those black snakes, relocated a couple from my chicken house. Refuse to kill one.

I knew it was a coach whip my brother in law took care of one at the nature center the are very aggressive if approached

The one in the picture must have been asleep. I kept getting closer and closer to him taking pictures, the last one being about 2' away, and he never moved. Only after I backed off several feet and was making noise cleaning off my shoes with our boot scraper did it leave.

well that sure looks like it except for the 3 bands where it starts to change colors. So I'm good with it.
