Members tommyboyrn Posted May 20, 2015 Author Members Posted May 20, 2015 Ok guys. Starting to worry a bit.....with all this rain and having never been to beaver thinking crappie gonna be tough....so im thinking of just focusing on the bass.....since only got a day and half fishing figured it would be easier to catch SOMETHING while spending time with my brother....what are yalls thoughts?
J-Doc Posted May 20, 2015 Posted May 20, 2015 I won't lie. It will be tough. Expect slow bites. If you do well......great! Don't expect a banner day. Just don't want your hopes up. Best thing would be small shakey heads with finesse worms fished slow ONCE YOU FIND FISH. Finding them on main lake points, underwater structure and brushpiles will be good starting points. A Carolina rig would be a good option too. If you're a dynamite crankbaiter, good option also but I'd stick with small finesse plastics for bites. You can catch good sized fish on shakey heads and Ned rigs. Need marine repair? Send our own forum friend "fishinwrench" a message. He will treat you like family!!! Feathers and Fins Posted May 20, 2015 Posted May 20, 2015 If catching is all you want to do then get a pound of Bass Minnows and a Pound of Crappie minnows and toss them near the tops of brush or along bluff walls. If you want numbers the white bass between 12 bridge and coppermine will produce lots of fish with spoons and white jigs. If you want to lure fish for bass J-doc is right on. Stripers are roaming at warp speed but can be caught as well. Really depends on what you want out of the trip https://www.facebook.com/pages/Beaver-Lake-Arkansas-Fishing-Report/745541178798856
ness Posted May 20, 2015 Posted May 20, 2015 I just love the title of this thread. Carry on. Chillfish 1 John
J-Doc Posted May 20, 2015 Posted May 20, 2015 Anywho..... I forgot to mention. Be sure and fish slowly on the shakey head and Ned rig. Try not to feel for the bite. If you feel the bite, don't set the hook instantly or you will probably miss. Let them chew on it for a few seconds and then sweep the rod like a c-rig hookset. Sweep it and keep the tension on them. The Ned rig is fished without feeling the bite. Keep a little slack in the line and watch it. Check for weight on occasion and if you feel anything abnormal, sweep the rod and hang on. kjackson Posted May 20, 2015 Posted May 20, 2015 Definitely use the Ned for numbers of bass. My trip yesterday was incredibly easy...the smallmouth were pretty much stupid easy. I caught several deadsticking the bait. Cast it out, lay the rod down, grab a sandwich and then either pick up the rod and sweep set into the fish or watch for the rod to start dancing. As J-Doc says, it usually is a different bite. I'm starting to learn that it usually is a ESP-type feeling--you kind of sense that there might be a fish on. Having said that, I had a couple of fish hit on the run, and end up jerking the rod...and my response, a quick hookset, resulted in no fish.
M_Taylor Posted May 20, 2015 Posted May 20, 2015 This could be dated information, but my best luck last week with the shaky head was on steep banks. Not sloping chunk rock, but water that went to 12 plus feet within yards of the shore. Good luck.
