MOPanfisher Posted May 25, 2015 Posted May 25, 2015 Walleye are the master of the boats idea "patooey". I have gotten to where I won't wait for my fishing buddy to get the net, if I get it to the edge of 5he boat I will swing it in, unless too big, but depending on rod I can swing in some pretty good ones. You would surprised how many fall off into the boat. Crappie, last year was an awesome year for big crappie, but this year I haven't gotten to try them and won't until fall at best. How busy was the traffic on the lake, wondered if they stayed through the storms or bailed and went home.

I think walleye do that cuz they have bony mouths, they dont bite hard/tail bite, and they just kinda shake and wiggle. Even though they are not good fighters they probably have the most effective evasion technique once hooked. Other fish turn and run, or pull hard, or use their weight which keeps pressure on the line and hook. Walleye just kinda shake their head and open their mouth without pulling which causes all sorts of slack in the line. Ive lost more walleye mid fight than any other kind of fish by far. Get good hooks and drive em deep!
MOPanfisher Posted May 29, 2015 Posted May 29, 2015 I went to a slightly heavier rod and will sock the steel to them when they hit. I lost more boatside than any other way, they get to splashing on top and you cant keep the pressure on them. Seems odd that that many razor sharp hooks can slip out, heck if I try to pick up a shad rap I invariably draw blood. Good fishing buddies who know when and how to net are a good thing, otherwise by the time they are ready I am already swinging them over the side. I have had them throw the lure hard enough to stick it in my leg 4 feet from where they are. Muskie on the other hand are my nemesis, they seem to have a vendetta against me and my crankbaits. A couple times I have had big ones up to the boat, before they flip me the proverbial fin, bite down and leave me cussing and stomping at another lost Rapala. Oh well still beats mowing the yard. Looks like more rain coming, will likely be next week before we are allowed to release any water so up into the bushes it goes. Wish I was out there.
trapshot25 Posted May 30, 2015 Author Posted May 30, 2015 You bet ya Mopanfisher darn musky mangle my spinnerbaits. Trying to get one on fly rod this year plus a few of those jumbo carp.Lol
