Members vpk2488 Posted May 26, 2015 Members Posted May 26, 2015 Just looked it up and January 1, 1984 is cut off for the certification in MO. I wouldn't mind seeing that date pushed back a ways. Would like to think there's a lot of 30-40 year old people who are purchasing their first boats since can finally afford it and just don't have a clue the ins and outs of owning and running a boat. Then throw in the fact that common courtesy is becoming a thing of the past...
GNSfishing Posted May 26, 2015 Posted May 26, 2015 I am familiar with the certification for younger boat drivers, it is required in Arkansas as well. Most of what I see is people above the required age group for certification. They just don't care to exercise common courtesy and safety in how close and the speed at which they drive by. It seems to be the same whether on the main lake, in a creek or large pocket. Most of this is just rude I own the water attitude and don't give a s*** about anyone but me. You got it that last sentence in your post is the bottom line. When you take the center stripe away they just run every which way and darn anyone else.. Have you ever meet a bunch of boats head on and wonder how to maneuver through the crowd without hitting head on another boat. They go every which way right and left till the only safe thing is to shut down and let them pass. I do the most of my fishing in the Cape Fair area and there are places that are narrow and it get hairy sometimes meeting other boats head on.. never knowing which way the other boats are going to turn they just don't know what to do or its like you said. Gosh the pleasure boat season has barely started and it a long haul till 1st of October.

Ran into this several times last week. On a 4 mile wide lake not so much an issue but a riverine lake like TR it's very important Sac River Jim and crusty bass 2 "I'm Haunted by Water"

GNSfishing Posted May 27, 2015 Posted May 27, 2015 You know it is a simple maneuver and there are many boat operators either don't know or choose to ignore the rule. That is both boats turn right if it is possible if not shut down until it is clear to continue. Like I said before there is no center line on the water but if every boat operator drove their boat as if there was one we would not be having these problems on the water....
