JohnF52 Posted May 30, 2015 Posted May 30, 2015 This afternoon I was over at Wyman bridge looking at the floodwaters. The river was rolling muddy and out in the trees on both sides. Then I saw a group of two kayaks and two canoes coming down the river. No more than three, possibly only two, of the six people were wearing life jackets. They very quickly passed under the bridge and on down. I hope we don't hear about an accident related to this on the news. To me it looked stupid......? beaverbeater and zarraspook 2
hoglaw Posted May 31, 2015 Posted May 31, 2015 Yeah, not smart and not really a fun float. But I'm sure they made it to the take out. Not exactly a challenging float.
J-Doc Posted May 31, 2015 Posted May 31, 2015 That's because it was stupid. The news has been warning people to avoid floodwaters and Army Corp of Eng. also warned people to use extra caution and avoid fast current. Also to watch for debris in water. There is debris and logs from one end of the lake to the dam. I was at the dam today. Logs and trees in main lake. Need marine repair? Send our own forum friend "fishinwrench" a message. He will treat you like family!!! I owe fishinwrench a lot of thanks. He has been a great mechanic with lots of patience!
M_Taylor Posted June 1, 2015 Posted June 1, 2015 My Dad and I rescued a couple goobers years ago on a river back home. It was 20 FEET above normal! Forty foot sycamores were rolling down the river. They were pinned in the tree tops on the edge of the current. Thanks to a solid jet boat and us risking our own lives, they survived. Found out later their dad was the one who put them in a 12 foot jon boat and sent them on their merry way. We wanted to smack him! None of them were wearing life jackets, but two out of the three had them in the boat. Can't fix stupid. But time to time you can save them.

Just let them do their dumb stuff. Mother Nature will take care of it.
JohnF52 Posted June 15, 2015 Author Posted June 15, 2015 I just walked over to the White river and it is up and very very muddy. There were some teens and younger swimming in it. I fear a tragedy, but what can one individual do, with no authority?
