LostMyWife Posted February 4, 2007 Posted February 4, 2007 See what happens when we get complacent. We get to #5. Everyone says, OK, now I can fish! Then no one posts any fishing reprots, (except Leonard), and now we fall to number 6 I was so desperate for something to read I amost opened the "nude girl writes anything" post. Well, it is thirteen degrees here. The wind chill is about 7 below. It is Superbowl Sundy, and I wish I was fishing. Comeon guys. Pt away the fly rods and hit the keyboards. We have to get our priorities back on track. Post Post Post Post Yes, I'm That Guy
duckydoty Posted February 4, 2007 Posted February 4, 2007 I'm still trying to plan the great escape this afternoon. I dont drink--my employees want me to drink, the owner of the company wants to get me drunk. They've all been talking about this for a week now, and all I can think about is FISHIN FISHIN FISHIN Gotta put new leader and tippet on the rods, straighten out all my fly boxes, reoganize the cold weather gear, and figure out what the heck I did with them fleece gloves. Post were a little slow last night and this morning---Is everyone else planning the great escape also. I'm hoping most of you fellas like football more than fishin---I'd wouldn't mind havin chute 2 to myself tonight Duckydoty A Little Rain Won't Hurt Them Fish.....They're Already Wet!! SilverMallard Posted February 4, 2007 Posted February 4, 2007 Not to knock this site or its popularity, but Fly Fishing's Top 100 is hardly objective or scientific or all-inclusive. You have to sign your website up for it and put their banner on your main page. And what this company does is redirect outbound traffic to other sites where they get paid for advertising and inbound traffic. I used to be involved in a similar business that controlled over 50% of all outdoor sports and recreation web traffic worldwide. That kind of market share is worth a surprising amount of money. Notice, for example, that Cabela's, Bass Pro Shops, Orvis, and FlyAnglersOnline.com are not listed. Notice that Fly Fisherman Magazine's website is not listed. THESE are the juggernaut sites for fly fishing. FAOL is the largest and most popular "content" site in the world for fly fishing. That means sites that are not selling merchandise. Bass Pro is the biggest retailer site for outdoor sports and recreation in the world. It IS a cool thing to climb into the top 10 on the "Top 100" lists. I'm not trying to toss a bucket of cold water on the parade. But I did want to add context and definition to what it actually means. Phil is definitely to be congratulated for being in their top 10 for fly fishing. And, frankly, this is one of my 2 favorite fly fishing sites...don't want to choose between them. And I thank Phil for providing it and congratulate him for managing such a popular site. For a regional fishing site, I think OA is by far the most USEFUL and well-planned site I've seen. It has great content. And content is king! If folks come here and find what they are looking for, it will continue to grow. Thom Posted February 5, 2007 Posted February 5, 2007 Congratulations OAF and thanks Phil and administrators for making this a great forum. I read many of the posts every day sometimes several times a day. It is not a good as fishing but keep me informed for my next trips. I really enjoy the way the members offer suggestions and share their experiences in using different methods both for angling and tying flies. The bantor and humor back and forth makes it entertaining as well as informative. Thom Harvengt

SilverMallard Posted February 12, 2007 Posted February 12, 2007 Pretty cool! I'm doing my fair share.
