Dan the fisherman Posted June 17, 2015 Posted June 17, 2015 I'm planning on floating from cedar grove to two rivers campsite. I'm about 4 hrs away from the current.. Can n e one tell me what a safe water level would be on the gauge? With all this rain I'm worried it might be flooded out. N e advice would be helpful.
awhuber Posted June 17, 2015 Posted June 17, 2015 The ONSR will close the river when the gage hits a level mentioned in the superintendents compendium on their web site They will put the closing on facebook page but not the website. http://www.nps.gov/ozar/learn/management/upload/OZAR-Supt-Com_Signed-050815.pdf
Flysmallie Posted June 18, 2015 Posted June 18, 2015 You may be planning on it but I don't think you are floating this weekend. Sucks I know but they are expecting a lot of rain. Better safe than dead. Call one of the canoe outfitters before making the 4 hour drive.

Call one of the canoe outfitters before making the 4 hour drive. Yep. We have had 1+ inches today and the real rain is coming in later. I was down yesterday evening and the water was perfect. There were a few over-nighters that were getting off today.
Dan the fisherman Posted June 18, 2015 Author Posted June 18, 2015 This weather is kill me.... But thanks for the heads up. I'll call 2 rivers tomorrow and listen to what they say. It's crazy cuz my brother and I have been waiting for a stretch of nice weather to float.. Looks like it might be nice next week but the river may be flooded out. Go figure. My bro leaves July 6 back to California also. This week may be the last opportunity to float with the 4th coming up and all. I definitely won't float if it's dangerous.. Not worth my life :-/
awhuber Posted June 19, 2015 Posted June 19, 2015 The water as of a few minutes ago was great. The weatherpersons are backing off on the totals. This weather is kill me.... Don Posted June 19, 2015 Posted June 19, 2015 I thing flood stage is 4 ft at the Akers gauge. We had a trip planed from Cedargrove to Akers today but cancelled because we wanted a slow leisurely float with gravel bars, not a fast float. Gauge at Akers was around 2.5 ft while ago and still floatable. Good thing about that stretch of river is that it has a small watershed and recovers from high water relatively quickly. Don May I caught you a delicious bass.
Dan the fisherman Posted June 29, 2015 Author Posted June 29, 2015 Well I finally got out there this week. I floated from Thursday to Sunday. I launched out of cedar grove and finished up at 2 rivers. Unfourtutionitly it was nothing like the trip I had last spring.... It was a barrage of jet boats and drunken floaters. Last spring we only encountered 2 floaters which was no problem to me, especially when it was just a small family have a nice float... This time was very different. I'm sure it had to do with the fact that's summer is in full swing and we floated through the weekend. But I did learn something. Avoid the current in summer if u don't like massive crowds and jet boats. I still love the current. And I guess everyone else does too, I'll make sure to float it during off season next time.
