Seth Posted February 5, 2007 Posted February 5, 2007 I don't live close to any fly shops and I only get a chance to go down to Taney a couple times a year. Bass Pro and Archery and Anglers are two places I get my materials when I am down there. Does anybody order materials online? What places do you recommend for online ordering?
Steve Smith Posted February 5, 2007 Posted February 5, 2007 Whenever possible, I buy local. For specialty items, I order from Feather Craft http://feather-craft.com/ or Stockard http://www.jsflyfishing.com/. You know too many of our local shops will handle mail and phone orders. I know Tim Homesley ships orders all the time (417) 847-4956 ___________________________ AKA Flysmith - Cassville MO

One reason is that all that I know are happy to help with a pattern, special orders, casting, and other information you can't get from mail order. I know that Tim as mentioned, Phil, Beaver Dam Store, Back Country, A and A, River Run and a host of others will do mail order just like the big box sports outfitters. Some local shops have online catalogues and some are in the development stage. Dano Glass Has Class "from the laid back lane in the Arkansas Ozarks"
Steve Smith Posted February 5, 2007 Posted February 5, 2007 That's right Dano. I also know that if it weren't for Tim's Fly shop in Cassville, I'd be in for a long drive to buy anything to tie, so I always give Tim a chance to order first. However, I still give him a rash for robbing me [just kidding Tim]. ___________________________ AKA Flysmith - Cassville MO
Thom Posted February 5, 2007 Posted February 5, 2007 I found that most of the locals shops and docks in Branson are very competitive in prices for most items. Bass Pro and Cabelas have gotten pricey on most fly tying materials and hooks. The cheaper ones that they sell will break very easily. I just broke off an white river scud in my vise last night tying a zebra midge. I ran out of Tiemco 2487's and bass pro was out of #18 hooks in St. Charles so I bought bass pro's brand wr whatever hooks. Nothing like spending 15 minutes perfecting a small three or 4 stage fly and then removing it from the vise and find that the hook point is broken. Worse yet keep missing strikes and check the hook and find the point is broken off. If I have to order I go to feathercraft. They will send a catalog or you can go online. Thom Harvengt
Terry Beeson Posted February 5, 2007 Posted February 5, 2007 Steve, If I even give a hint that I might be within 50 miles of a fly shop, my wife will demand all cash, checks, credit cards, and other forms of payment, legal tender, and barter be left in her care until I'm out of that radius... I usually just walk into Backcountry Outfitters, hand Michael my wallet, and tell him to let me know when I'm at my limit... One of these days I'm going to be in Wapsi and fall into their dubbing river and get sucked up into the feather dying room. Either that or get flushed from the room where the wooly worms spin the Krystal Flash and am counted as a "bad flash." At that point the Wapsi Oompa Loompas will have to retrieve me and give me back to my wife... But, you and Dano have said it all... (Subliminal advertisment for Steve Dally) Seth... watch the swinging wooly bugger... you're getting sleepy... email Beaver Dam Store... Or Michael Or Phil Or Tim Or any of the other fly shop owners... they will help you I'm sure... Seth Posted February 6, 2007 Author Posted February 6, 2007 LOL...wow those subliminal messages really work. Thanks guys, I will get in contact with some of the shops you mentioned. I didn't know they would ship out orders like that.

On a more serious note, any of these guys are great to help out. Unfortunately, taking John's money away doesn't help...then I find something I "need!" I can bring home the trout...fry it up in a pan...and never let you forget I caught it! 'Cause I'm a woman!
Root Admin Phil Lilley Posted February 6, 2007 Root Admin Posted February 6, 2007 My online shop will be up and running shortly... meeting with a banking service this week so that we can take credit cards online. All our material will- or really already is- online. Give us another week or so and we'll go live.
