wuteversbitin424 Posted July 13, 2015 Posted July 13, 2015 I think im finally going to make it up to do some fishing wed morning. Was thinking about hitting the flats and drifting some shiners. Anyone know if thats cats are doing what the should be. I wouldnt think the high water would hurt that bite too much. Also hows the water clarity? I usually site fish some shad schools and i got a new cast net i want to try out and get some bait with. Thanks for any info!
Members JTU Posted July 15, 2015 Members Posted July 15, 2015 I drifted cut shad Saturday morning from 9-noon and caught two. It was SLOW. Decided that with the good south winds, sun and more stable weather the bite had to pick up. Went back at 6 that same evening and drifted to 10pm with a new batch of fresh cut shad and had zero bites. Not sure what had them shut down. Drifting channel cat is about all I do and I have reliable spots and none of them produced. I even broke my own traditions and drifted new water in depths from 10 to 25 and no dice. It's the first off day I've had this year. I'm sure it'll pick up, but I'll wait another week before heading back.

Caught two nice crappie right off the bat setting over 45' near a channel bend north of Mutton Creek. After about two hours of nothing I relocated inside Mutton over brush in 35' still nothing by midnight . Gave up and headed to the house. I just think there is so much bait of all sizes fishing may be hard until the lake recedes at least a couple of feet. Water temp was 85.5. Only saw two boats out. One light fishing the bridge at Ruark (they gave it up pretty early) Aggressor1988long 1
Members PreacherJoe Posted July 15, 2015 Members Posted July 15, 2015 Went out Monday morning, trolling in some areas that I usually do, not far from Mill Bluff. It was windy, which turned out working to our advantage. We got the whites pinned in a cove, where the wind had them caught. They were feeding, so we swapped to some cranks and started trolling… and we stopped when both live wells were filled! Took a couple of hours. Had a fish fry last night - good stuff.
