I trolled cranks on the weekend of the 4th. No crappie..only walleye. Was very slow compared to the spring.

Most have moved to brush piles.

May I my best month for trolling cranks for crappie. Seems to slow down for me when water hits high 70s and 80s.

I haven't tried it in a couple of years, because I am no fan of blistering heat crappie fishing, but for those out, you might try Carolina rigging minnows with a floating jig head off the ends of the flats. Locating schools of fish with a graph is vital and playing with leader length sometimes helps.

my dad said same thing, to try fishing a shiner and a white caribou jig, I believe shiners would move the jig around mogre. But also he has caught crappie this time of year in blistering heat. I think the water just needs to settle after all the rain we had. It really screws up the. Thermo cline.
