You know, it's amazing to me that almost everyone will obey a stop sign in the middle of nowhere with no traffic or law in sight. But some of those same people will intentionally take more than their limit of fish.

Then again the courts and prisons are full of people who do things that I will never really understand...

Yep, Dano... it's a good thing trout don't taste like crappie...

Upsetting the masses....Oooooo what fun.

I eat trout....sometimes.

I catch and release....most times.

I keep brown trout...1 fish, 1 time 20+ years ago.

I lost a friend....cause I talked to him about his "shuffling problem".

I fish from my boat rather than wade...50/50 split.

I flyfish exclusively....no, I sometimes sin and spin.

I will share with you how to tie any fly in my box

& I do not like fishing tournaments.

You may not agree with what I've said.

I may not agree with you.

But I will defend your right to enjoy our sport

within the laws as they are written.

So....if you want to eat a few of those trout

your tax dollars helped pay for???

Bon Appetite! :P

Well I can say from my meesly 20 some odd days on upper Taney last year that I didn,t see hardly any fish being taken home or on stringers. And there were many times I was the only spin fisherman in the area.I did see three Trophys taken home 1 by a kid throwing a rooster tail and 2 huge browns taken by fly fishermen. There is no problem of too many fish being taken home, infact there needs to be more taken out in my opinion.

As for violations, didn't see anything except the same old bunch of flyfishers doing the shuffle.

There are alot of guys who put in more days fishing than me but,one thing I can say is that I have been on this Forum reading it almost every day since it started and from my observation there are few that don't need waders when they go to Taney they can just walk on top of the water....

I forgot to add earlier that if I land any trout over the slot limit, I release them. Now granted thats only happened once, but that's what I would do if it ever happens again.

I used to keep a few trout when I was camping on the White River, and I'll bring 3-4 home for my elderly neighbor every now & then, but for the most part I don't keep trout. Its my opinion that they are not fit to eat once they've been out of the water for a while. Besides, I've got walleye & sauger in the freezer :)

If you really want to see poaching, go on down to the Spring River in AR. I was there a couple of weeks ago and saw a guy retrieve 3 loaded stringers from different spots in the river. I would say he took 20-30 trout home with him. I've had people tell me that this type of thing is common on the Spring. I don't have a problem with anyone taking a legal limit home, I take my limit of Sauger home everytime I can from the TN river, and they get eaten. The problem I have is people taking fish that they are never going to use and will just get thrown away because it was neat at the time to bring home a big mess of fish.

Also, I think that some people on this board are suffering from cabin fever, it seems that some of the posts have gotten kind of contentious the last of couple of days. Everybody needs to be nice and not flame other users.

I don't know how any of you guys got the idea that I think too many fish are being taken out of the TMZ on Taney. Where do you get this stuff? I also happen to think not enough are being taken out. But the slot is the slot for a reason. The violations are a matter of public record. They make the local paper. Most people pretty much play by the rules. On a holiday weekend, writing a few dozen tickets for violations of fishing regs on upper Taney is easy, but it is still only a small % of the people fishing there.

And, FYI, posting a contradiction to someone's firsthand report and then crying foul when they defend what they said with reason and facts is childish and intellectually dishonest. If you want to argue, don't start whining cuz you got beat by facts and logic. One does not need cabin fever to find that mildly annoying.

Trust me, just because you've never seen the warden doesn't mean that he isn't watching you right now. They have tricks and tactics that alot of people don't think of, like watching people on the water from a hidden spot or so the sun is at their backs so you can't see them.

Speaking of toothy critters, taneycomo seems like an Ideal place to have a trophy northern pike fishery: plenty of cold water in the upper lake(prefered by larger pike) warm water on the lower lake for younger ones, plenty of forage(stockers, shad, suckers) and aquatic vegetation for spawning!! okay i'm just kidding about pike in taney, stocking non-native species is can have serious consequences, but it is fun to think about.

MoMusky,

Trout are fragil fish, using barbless hooks is best if you are catching and releasing.

Also rubber nets are the best for trout, but fine mesh work alright, now those big green nylon nets are bad for a fish.

Trout should not be held out of the water to long, nor should you put your fingers threw their gills, also wet hands are best to handle fish, but better if you dont handle them at all (the slime on the fish is needed to survive).

Now I have never been to taney, but I am moving down that way soon, so I dont know if people do this on taney. Taney is a put and take fishery, but If you go out west and fish for wild trout these are the proper handling procedures
