Cleaned up the Zebco with WD-40 and it worked like a charm. Used it for exactly what you are thinking about. Eventually gave it away to someone who needed a rod, and kind of regret it. Good cheap adult version of the "Snoopy" pole to have on hand when you have an extra hour and some water to fish. So, my answer is yes, I literally "snagged" one of them. After about a year, I had occassion to use it to fish a little creek in a remote canyon in CO for Brook Trout. Pristine...not even another car on the highway. I broke it out and started fishing. Bass Pro has the three piece Micro Light spinning rods on sale right now for $29.99. The 6 footer in "L" is a perfectly acceptable for trout fishing. I've used that model rod four or five times now and I very happy with it for trout. Add an inexpensive spinning reel (Okuma, Shimano, ext) and you'll have a setup that cost three times as much, but it will fish better when new and remain in fishing condition for many years if you are careful with it. Members armyflyfisher Posted February 9, 2007 Members Share Posted February 9, 2007 I have had a 4'6" Ultra Light Micro Shakespeare spinning rod, that I have used to throw tiny rooster tails at pan fish in some of the ponds and lakes on FT Leonard Wood. It's a little stiff for me - but what do you expect for such a short rod? I paired it up with an old Shimano AXUL-S open faced ultra light spinning reel that I had laying around. troutchaser Posted February 9, 2007 Share Posted February 9, 2007 I really like the Bass Pro Wally Marshall Crappie Combo. It's $29.99 and it holds up really well. I put 4 lb. camo line on it and it fishes like a dream. It's sensitive enough to feel the light strikes and tough enough to put some pressure on a nice sized crappie. I'm going to use it this weekend for trout on Taneycomo, too. I know Eminence isn't exactly close to Springfield, but I would recommend spending the extra $10 and getting something that will hold up. MrDucky Posted February 10, 2007 Share Posted February 10, 2007 I bought a Ugly Stick Combo from Walmart , It's been a great rod and reel . I did however put new line on it . All in all its a great spinning combo , I have caught many trout with it including a good brown with a zonker jig (thanks again Leonard). It is a great pole though 4' 6" ultra light Yikes!!!
