Bill Babler Posted February 12, 2007 Author Posted February 12, 2007 1308, We would love to hear of your night fishing excursions. SK sometimes hits the Rock in the early AM such as 3 AM or so, but we never really get the scoop from nite time fishing. Give us a primer of the locations you look for, the baits you use and how you fish them. Any special nights or just the best time to go is when you can. I can tell you the whole TR Forum will really look forward to this fantastic info. It seems night fishing slowed down a bit after the fish kills, but with the way the LM are responding, I think it is coming back for front. Look forward to your participation. http://whiteriveroutfitters.com http://whiteriverlodgebb.com
SKMO Posted February 12, 2007 Posted February 12, 2007 bb-- i really enjoy this forum. not only is everyone helpful but i like the fishing info from the sk area where i do almost all my fishing. maybe i can contribute more when it gets to my time of year, april thru late summer night fishing. hot hot hot. it even feels good typing 'hot' after this cold winter. keep up the good work. 1308 - Maybe we can start a night fishing discussion. Like Bill said I make quite a few trips to the water in the Very Early morning hours as I live in SK. Just get up to pee at 2 or 3 and decide what the heck, might as well go out, if it is fairly warm. I know mid-summer is good but I do even better in Spring and Fall in the pre-dawn hours. Pretty uncommon not to hang at least a couple good fish and I have experienced some awesome times the last 90 minutes before the sun shows. I prefer pre-dawn to just after sunset, as it seems you often have a few dead hours after sunset before they bite. Rarely have I caught good KY's predawn except around spawning season, buts lots of good LM and SM year round. Bait of choice is a big black spinnerbait with a thumper blade the size of a half dollar and a pork trailer. Throw this thing about anywhere on chunky banks and hang on. bassman1308 Posted February 13, 2007 Posted February 13, 2007 skmo--just thinking about getting up at 3AM makes me realize why i like night fishing so much.lol. noticed a previous BB post with names like holmgren, langley and ralph at kings harbor mentioned. now those boys caught a few fish. ever hear of frank mulick. he breifly lived at green shores but moved to ark. about 8 yrs ago. in the 70s, he was as good as there was in the camp pt area. quite a character. you're excatly right about night fishing being down since the fish kill a few yrs ago, imho. i think the loss of so many largemouth really hurt night fishing. 10 yrs ago it took at least 20 lbs to win a 5 hrs night tourn on tr., mostly lm. i'd take 10lbs now and be happy. however, i agree that it has picked up the last 2 yrs. and will get better as the largemouth population increases. i'm always happy to share any info that may help other catch fish and will do so no matter what time of year. thats what makes this forum atractive. fishermen helping fishermen.
Fishrman Posted February 13, 2007 Posted February 13, 2007 Hey bassman1308, do you fish the Wed. nighters out of the bridge in Shell Knob on a regular basis?
bassman1308 Posted February 13, 2007 Posted February 13, 2007 fishrman- the last couple yrs i fished just enough wedn nighters to get qualified for the fish off. this yr i plan on fishing more of them. i've cut way back on my work and consequently have more free time. actually, blackie & i were the ones who started this tourn, about 25 to 30 yrs ago. due to raising kids, coaching summer baseball, etc, i just couldn't be there every wedn night to help run it. if i remember right, thats when larry & rick started helping blackie. blackie goes out of his way to run a fair and honest. if you guys have any pull in shell knob, it would be nice to have a pole light at the ramp. do you fish many of these tourn ?
Fishrman Posted February 13, 2007 Posted February 13, 2007 I used to, but due to my commitment to a night class to finish a degree I was unable to fishe them the past year and a half. I really enjoy them, the four hours goes by pretty quick, but I am usually back at Cassville by no later than 12:30. The Friday nighters were enjoyable too, but my Saturday was always shot and my boys were always wanting to do things. I will finish my degree in April, so I will be able to start fishing them again this year. Just need to find a partner now. You are right a pole light were should be handy.

Fishrman Posted February 14, 2007 Posted February 14, 2007 Well how ironic, I will be in a white Ranger R-93, with burgundy stripes. Oh, my degree is my last one in Educational Administration. Hope to see you in April.
Gary Lange Posted February 14, 2007 Posted February 14, 2007 Now we have and Educational Admin. here so we will need to watch our Grammer and Spelling I guess. I can't get these things typed having to look up every other word. It is going to be 40 on Friday and my plan is to get out onto Indian Point area I think it is and look that over as I have never fished that before. I will be in a Black and Red Cobra 201D. Respect your Environment and others right to use it!
Fishrman Posted February 14, 2007 Posted February 14, 2007 Wish I could be there with you, but will have to be here at school.
