Does anyone know of any large Burr Oaks around the lake or in the nearby area. I would like to collect some of the nuts.  Any help would be appreciated.

Well minnowhooker, I went behind the Walmart and sure enough there was the two Burr Oaks. Two problems...One does not have any acorns and the other problem-They cut the grass. The acorns on the ground look like they had been chewed on by a 500 lb squirrel!!  lol

I found several others today in some parks but they didn't have nuts. OH well, that's life.

My mom finds burr oak acorns at the nature center, uses them for arts and craft projects. Also there are several in the very back of cave springs along the creek (at the lake)

Thanks Bigfishes1. Next stop the nature center. When you are talking about 'cave springs along the creek'. Are you talking about a specific place on the lake called Cave Springs or just in general.

Appreciate the info very much.

Well BF1, your mother is a better frontier's man (woman) than I am. I walked every trail (no trouble sleeping to night) and couldn't find but one Burr Oak. It was rotten and had been cut down about a year ago, Maybe that was the only one. Thanks for the tip. I appreciate it.

Sorry about that, but mowing is bound to slow down if you check back on an off maybe you can find some not ravaged by them 500lb squirrels.

Ok, just got off the phone with her she says the ones at the nature center are hard to find??? However she also said that there are a bunch of them across from the yuppie farm ( Rutledge Wilson Farm) and she said that she was just over there and weren't on the ground yet. She said to walk the trail on the south side of the road and you can't miss them.
