Kramr Posted October 10, 2015 Posted October 10, 2015 Caught 5 with 1 keeper. Fished in the dam area on the various points and flats in 15 - 20 fow. Also caught a bunch of bluegill. Probably could have caught more walleye if the bluegill would leave it alone. dan hufferd 1
MOPanfisher Posted October 10, 2015 Posted October 10, 2015 Catch me a bucket of big bluegill and I will come get them. Delicious! dan hufferd 1
Kramr Posted October 11, 2015 Author Posted October 11, 2015 Catch me a bucket of big bluegill and I will come get them. Delicious! Funny, all I could think was that it just ate my walleye bait. Think I will keep a few to eat. MOPanfisher 1
MOPanfisher Posted October 11, 2015 Posted October 11, 2015 If there was a pile of bluegill, walleye, crappie, and flathead belly, and I could only have one I would be in a terrible quandry as to which one to pick.
Members lundone Posted October 12, 2015 Members Posted October 12, 2015 Bluegill are hard to beat MOP. Most of mine come as a by product of walleye fishing. Anyone have a good method of catching the large ones? Anyone fish for them in the winter?
MOPanfisher Posted October 12, 2015 Posted October 12, 2015 I simply fillet them like a crappie. It's a little trickier on the blade turn, and a narrow blade helps. For many years before I 3vwr heard of fillet ing we scaled them cut their heads off and gutted. Pan fried the whole thing, the crispy tails were a little treat we thought. Never fished for them in winter though.
