Members Have fish will travel Posted October 27, 2015 Members Posted October 27, 2015 I'm going to take my wife catfishing this weekend and would like to put her on some big cats. Anyone know of some good spots for big catfish on Beaver? I know a lot of people say go to Oklahoma but that isn't a great option for us.
Stump bumper Posted October 27, 2015 Posted October 27, 2015 Right at the launch on PC I have seen some really big cats brought in and some thick hooks straightened. I don't know if you are fishing from shore or a boat, but shore fishing for cats at PC is popular and should be getting good. Right in front of the pavilions casting out toward the old bridge is where I have seen big cats landed. But I have hooked big cats all over the lake while night fishing for bass. bfishn Posted October 27, 2015 Posted October 27, 2015 About now, the back half of any creek arm where the shad are piled up. Good daytime bite from 5-30 ft. Anyplace the whites, hybrids or stripers are tearing up the shad, there will be cats underneath, living the good life. Also flatheads shallow at night near ~20' timber. They're not quite on their fall feed yet, but it won't be long. Have fish will travel 1 I can't dance like I used to.
Members Have fish will travel Posted October 27, 2015 Author Members Posted October 27, 2015 Thanks for the tips. I should have mentioned that I am fishing from a boat. I had an old man tell me that I should try out Neil's bluff. Does anyone know anything about that area? It sounded good from what he said but it's a long way from where I live.
Stump bumper Posted October 28, 2015 Posted October 28, 2015 Myself I think the cats are drawn into the lights along with shad and small fish, or it could be that I am drawn to the lights at night.lol Anyway find the bait and you will find cats. Have fish will travel 1
Members Have fish will travel Posted October 28, 2015 Author Members Posted October 28, 2015 I think I'll try by the prairie creek boat launch area this weekend. I'll probably do some very slow drifting with my lines spread out directly below the boat with shad or blue gill for bait. I'll set up my rods at four different depths until I can figure out what depth they like. Does anyone have any suggestions for hook type? I was considering trying circle hooks but I don't have any past experience with them.
hoglaw Posted October 29, 2015 Posted October 29, 2015 Circles are fine. Just remember not to set the hook. Let the fish eat and run with it until your rod is fully loaded the. Just reel. If you're using a stout rod and a short line directly below the boat, you'll probably have to set your drag really light so the fish can peel it off easily. Then just gradually tighten it. Terrierman Posted October 29, 2015 Posted October 29, 2015 Use a big enough hook. At least 3/0. Better is 5/0. Have fish will travel 1
