J-Doc Posted November 26, 2015 Posted November 26, 2015 10 is fine. Loose drag. Play the fish. Chase it with motor and help steer it into the open water and out of trees and keep it there. Need marine repair? Send our own forum friend "fishinwrench" a message. He will treat you like family!!! I owe fishinwrench a lot of thanks. He has been a great mechanic with lots of patience!

Members Wildeye Posted November 26, 2015 Members Posted November 26, 2015 I never go that big either. 1/0-3/0 for 3-6inch shad 3/0 to 4/0 on the 7 inch plus, and much over 7 I add a treble stinger. And I prefer offset octopus to circles
Stump bumper Posted November 27, 2015 Posted November 27, 2015 Have you tried the 5/0 mosquito hook by Owner? It is a J-style hook but small and easy to remove. I have not had a deep hook yet, also with a wide gap and small hook, not to big for 3 inch shad or brooders.

I'm always down for trying something new
Members Jack Perdew Posted November 27, 2015 Author Members Posted November 27, 2015 I like the stinger hook idea on large shed I believe it would help me a lot thank you all for your help Dan the fisherman 1
Stump bumper Posted November 27, 2015 Posted November 27, 2015 The problem with circle hooks is you can't pull back on the fish even when he is taking drag, I can't break that habit. I have to put my back into it and have pulled the circle hook right out of their mouth. If you can think and take your time you are better man then me, when I hear that drag going I loose my mind.
Members Jack Perdew Posted November 28, 2015 Author Members Posted November 28, 2015 Stump bumper I'm with you, hard to sit back and let her run with it. hard to know then the hook is set or will she open up and let the bait go. On the other side of that coin I see what fin& feather has posted and his record Is unquestionable one of if not the best at this game. I believe it our old habits fishing black bass which bite us in the back side. Stump bumper 1
1969Larson Posted November 28, 2015 Posted November 28, 2015 If you're keeping fish, nothing wrong with nose-hooking live bait with a small treble hook. That will help hook-ups.
