Lifes2Short Posted November 28, 2015 Posted November 28, 2015 Since we planned on having our big meal on Friday, and Thursday was the only decent day during the break, I went fishing.......and I'm glad I did!!!! Since we were going to have such strong winds out of the south I decided to put in at Roark, needless to say I was the only one at the ramp. Got on the water about 7:30 and fished until 3:30. Ran up into the timber and started fishing the cuts that ran east/west, because of all the wind I immediately caught blacks & whites on the wind blown banks. Caught some really nice 2 to 3# whites and a number of 12 to 14 inch bass. The water had come up 2 to 3 feet and I figured out that the keeper bass had gone back into the flooded bushes and wood. I also found keepers on the channel-swing banks. Spinnerbaits hammered the bigger fish but keepers were also caught on shad crankbaits, jigs, and brush hogs. I actually stopped to watch one guy fishing from shore who was catching whites on most every cast, he had a bucket that was filling up fast with those big whites. He kept yelling at me to cast into his water but it was too darn much fun watching him hammer them! Wind blew 20+ and water temps were steady at 52. Rough guess I caught 18 whites and 25 blacks with the best 5 going 12+ pounds. I'm going to try to head up tomorrow and fish the main lake, with the north winds I'm sure everything is going to change. It was one of those days that you wished you had someone with you to experience Stockton at its finest. Tight Lines, hope everyone had a chance to fill their tummy's! tho1mas, Riverwhy and Hammer time 3
Hammer time Posted November 28, 2015 Posted November 28, 2015 Nice report, as the saying goes, wind out of the south hook in the mouth. Congrats on figuring them out. Lifes2Short 1
Basschomper Posted November 30, 2015 Posted November 30, 2015 Btlifes2short I would like to thank you for your report. I only had 4-5 hours yesterday to fish and my stubbornness wasted the first three. Tried force feeding the bass wiggle warts and jerkbaits. Finally tied on a spinnerbait and headed to the back of a cove. Probably 8-10 casts later had my first keeper. Over the next couple hours I landed 9 bass. Only 3 were keepers with one being a 4lb 6oz and the other two being solid little keepers. I fished the mid lake area Mutton Creek to about the 215 bridge. Your report salvaged my day of cold, wind, and periods of light rain. This is definitely going in my fishing journal. I have to rite these things down because I am doing good to to remember the last couple days let alone what I did to get bit next year at this time.
Lifes2Short Posted December 1, 2015 Author Posted December 1, 2015 Happy it helped Basschomper! I almost went on Sunday but decided to stay by the fireplace. What was the water temp in the Mutton Creek area?
Basschomper Posted December 1, 2015 Posted December 1, 2015 For the most part it was 49-50. I found one cove, just inside googer creek, that dropped to 47.8 in the back end. I caught 2 in there but they were about half way back in the cove instead of the very back. Maybe I have missed a good bite over the years but I can not remember a time that I was fishing the buck brush and stumps where I can clearly see the bottom and watch my bait take off sideways or just disappear suddenly, this time of year. Good times and duly noted. A good lesson on fishing the conditions I suppose. Lifes2Short 1
