Do you have a cast net? If so head to the mouth of any creek, wait for flips and throw. I got 12 in one throw today and a 12 inch bass to boot and there was a 5lb or larger bass trying to eat the shad through the net.

If you don't throw a net, head over to Hook,Line & sinker in Rogers and ask for Brooders.

Where are you putting in at?

For all those with left over Gizzard shad and no 100 gal tanks to keep them in, there is still something fun you can do with them.

For those that eat Sushi all the time this may be a surprise, or not.

You can find them shallow.

I've said too much already. Asking for bait is like asking for my waypoints. :-)

Better have a big net and be ready to throw quickly. Be sure and release what you don't use and only keep what you think you will need.  More than a dozen for my boat is too many.  I change out baits with fresh bait and still don't use more than a dozen in a 5-6hr trip. A dozen is more than enough for 2 rods. If you're running 4 rods, over a dozen might be justified.

Just respect the bait population and take what you need is what I'm getting at.

You should learn the cast net. It took me much longer than it should have as there are a lot of videos on YouTube teaching different techniques.  I prefer to not put the net in my mouth. Especially after it's got slimy mud all over it.  The key is to find a way that allows the net to have 3 triggers that will create 3 separate groups of weights to go in 3 directions while in a circular type motion. Sounds complex right? It can be but it can be quite simple too.  I get a pancake toss everytime now.  I practiced with an 8ft net and found the right combination that works for me.  Mine is a hybrid combo of two techniques.

I would recommend starting with a much smaller net, mine is half the size of J-Docs and if I can find a good school I can get bait. I have been throwing a 4ft for years and still mess up. There is a madder of twisting and and putting your hips to work, my wife is a natural, I just don't have the body for it. Also helps if your boat can get shallow.

Good point on boat being shallow. I can draft in a foot or less and a deep v boat.....well you're looking at 2-3ft.

The back portion of Coose Hollow (just around the corner to the north of Prairie Creek) is usually packed with bait this time of year. The back half of Prairie Creek is a good place to look also.
