Flysmallie Posted February 23, 2007 Posted February 23, 2007 Any recommendations on what I should tie. Never tied or fished one. What would be a good pattern.
Zach Bearden Posted February 23, 2007 Posted February 23, 2007 Well Im going to do a Hares Ear Flymph in size 14 which works great here on the Lower Illinois. I love to fish it through tree branches in a swing heavily weighted.... :D FlySmallie go to a local flyshop and question the shopkeep about wets... A normal Wet constist of some hackle, a tail, some dubbing and a wing which is a normally white mallard quill But heres a recpie for a royal Coachman Wet Hook: Standard or 1X long,1X or 2X stout, size 10-16. Thread:Black 6/0 or 8/0 nylon. Hackle: Dark Brown Hen. Tail: Golden pheasant tippet fibers. Butt: Peacock herl. Body: Red Floss. Shoulder: Peacock herl. Wing: White Mallard quill. This is a basic yet kind of hard if youve never done them... nice looking fly and very classic looking "Its clearly Bree time baby!" Member: 2009 U.S. Youth Fly-Fishing Team. jjtroutbum Posted February 23, 2007 Author Posted February 23, 2007 Randall, I think I'm gonna wait to choose until after everyone else gets there patterns named that way I hopefully don't get anyones favorite fly and they will join the swap. Believe me my three favorite and most productive fish producing flies have already been named which only goes to say good things about the luck people will have actually using these flies. Flysmallie, Wets, Softwackles or flymphs can be as ornate or as simple as one would like them to be the R.C. pattern given above is a example of ornate side of the list for sure, but Danos pattern is comparatively very simple but is also the very pattern (except that I use mallard and pheasant for my hackles) that I have used and catch tons of fish with on almost any given trip. Thanks for participating everyone I think that Im gonna at least wait till the end of the weekend for the end of the signup JJ http://globalflyfisher.com/patterns/flymphs/ Above is a nice link to patterns and there uses http://globalflyfisher.com/patterns/bergman/ And the one above is for those who wanna challenge or to show off some of those hard practiced tallents Jon Joy ___________ "A jerk at one end of the line is enough." unknown author The Second Amendment was written for hunting tyrants not ducks. Flysmallie Posted February 24, 2007 Posted February 24, 2007 I'm gonna go with Dano's recommendation. I found a nice pattern for the partridge and orange.
