We finally made it to our home in Shell Knob. It took us six days to make it here but we made it. We had to stop in Gallup, NM to have the altenator and water pump replaced in the RV. We got to the house on Thursday Feb 9. It has been an adventure since we moved in. On Friday the septic system backed up into the basement (what fun that was), Then we found that both the fireplace insert and the wood stove in the basement were not installed properly and run the risk of a major fire if used. Here is the up side. We have been able to tear out the carpet in the two upstairs bedrooms and hallway and replace it with laminate flooring. Our household goods arrived in great condition and we were able to find three young kids to help us unload the trailer. I am happy to finally be here and to enjoy the view of the lake every day while I enjoy my coffee. Now i just need to unpack all of the boxes that are surrounding my boat and get on the water. Looking forward to meeting some of the forum members either on the water (look for the white Triton with the green stripe) or here in town. :D

Glad you made it Dennis! I will tell you this when I moved down here in 2005 I was in the house just two days and had to head back to Illinois to help my younger brother haul is stuff down here. I went up early in the morning on a Wed. and was back by early morning on Friday. My wife had all the boxes unloaded, had the beds all ready for guests and had some food in the fridge. I called her about 5:00am that morning on my way up and she said she was at Wal-Mart picking up some stuff she needed. My wife is an early riser. You will get those boxes unloaded in good time and be on the water before you know it. Welcome to the Ozarks and good fishing. Look for a Black and Red Cobra on the water that will be me.

Welcome to the Ozarks!

Aren't long moves FUN?

We moved here from Southern California in 1990, and it was just horrible. We moved FOUR households (me and my wife and two kids, oldest daughter and her husband, my mother, and my mother-in-law) all in one trip. We had a semi truck with a 48 ft. trailer, a big rented truck pulling a car on a trailer, and our SUV with me driving - a regular convoy.

I'd been real careful and had the SUV serviced just before the trip. It was the height of summer and when it started to get hot that first morning in the Mojave Desert, I turned the air conditioner on and it blew hot air. The dealership had left a fitting loose and all the coolant had leaked out. As we passed through Needles, the radio said it was 122 degrees, and that heat wave followed us for three days. When we reached Springfield it was 103, and for the whole trip we had no air conditioning in the SUV.

Our mothers hated each other, they were sitting side by side in the middle seat behind me, and they fought and griped all the way. My wife's cat was riding on the floor between the two front seats, and I think he died several times from heat during the trip - you could pick him up and drop him like a limp dishrag. By about the second day, none of us were hardly speaking to each other. Then we got here and had spend days unloading all that stuff.

But - it was worth it! I bought my fishing boat that first summer here, and I've never enjoyed anything so much as fishing these lakes and hunting these hills. The Ozarks are a great place to live.

And if I ever make a long-distance move again, I won't take anything that won't fit in my bags on the airplane.

Welcome to SK. Where approximately do you live if I may ask?

I live a couple miles south of the bridge on the Kings River.

We moved down here from Alaska in April 2006. We know a lot about long moves, but little about bass fishing as of yet! It is good to see other people new to the area.

I looked for Gary Lange at the Bass Pro Fishing the Ozarks Class, but couldn't figure out who he was. I love the knowledge you can gleen from this forum!
