I see Cabelas has a sale on the Humminbird 899 now. I've had one on the trolling motor for a couple of years now and like it, so thought I would buy another one for the wheel. Only question is which map card to go with.

I was reading about Lake Master and it looks like it will highlight a constant depth line.  Maybe some of the others will also.  That might be useful for walleye and stripers.

I need suggestions as to which to buy.

I've used navionics and and lake master on my bird.   Im using the lake master now.  Mostly because of the I-pilot linking deal.  They're both good though.

According to the Lakemaster documentation on HB's website, no lake in Arkansas has a high definition map, including Beaver. So Navionics still seems like the best choice for this area.

I'm a Lakemaster fan. True - Beaver Lake isn't a "high definition" lake, but I love the ease of setting up the depth highlights, shallow water alerts, and adjusting the lake elevation so that it changes the depths for the whole lake (especially considering the frequent rapid changes to water depths on Beaver).

They must have about 5 or more Helix models from small to large.

There clearing out all the old models now.  Last night Cabelas had the 899cxi at $599 on the website which forced me off the fence.  That price is history today as they raised it back up.  They had the 1199 marked way down today but it was still too pricey for me.

You can change the depth offset on HB units with Navionics maps, as well as easily change depth highlights and shallow water alerts. I thought those were HB features, not mapping software features. Either way, you can do those with Navionics, too.

I have nothing against Lakemaster, and would probably use them if they had HD maps of the lakes I fish. But missing that is a big deal to me. Hopefully someday they will get busy and start adding at least the major lakes in Ark. Until then, I'm not interested.

Is the 899 bigger than the Helix because my GPS is still black and white, needing to upgrade myself.

The 899 is an 8" diag screen. Helix 7 is 7", Helix 9 is 9".  Folks that have owned both on some of the HB forums tend to say the 899 is the better unit.

That's a great deal for sure! I almost bought one at Cabelas on black friday when they were $649 at the store. But found one online with the Navionics package for only $40 more, which I more than saved by not having to pay the ~10% sales tax in Rogers. They are blowing these out, so a great time to upgrade electronics for sure.
