Fish Bork Posted December 20, 2015 Posted December 20, 2015 Thinking of going to a duck park on Tuesday, I live in Springfield, and I do have a kayak. Any suggestions on which one to check out, also how early do I have to get there. Thanks Time flies like an arrow. Fruit flies like a banana.
BilletHead Posted December 20, 2015 Posted December 20, 2015 Mr. Bork, Unit three or four on four rivers. They are open units. Just paddle around until you find a place that suits your fancy and go to hunting. if you go very far watch the weather and I would not go if the wind is like it is today Good luck, BilletHead "We have met the enemy and it is us", Pogo If you compete with your fellow anglers, you become their competitor, If you help them you become their friend" Lefty Kreh " Never display your knowledge, you only share it" Lefty Kreh "Eat more bass and there will be more room for walleye to grow!" JohnP Posted December 20, 2015 Posted December 20, 2015 https://extra.mdc.mo.gov/cgi-bin/mdcdevpub/apps/wtrfwl/main.cgi Think link should take you the map for MDC'S managed waterfowl areas. Click on the number for the duck park you want to check out and it will give you the draw time and their current stats. Looks like draw times for Schell and 4R's is 5:15am.
curtisce Posted December 22, 2015 Posted December 22, 2015 if it is your first time to 4 rivers I would suggest waiting till after sunrise. Unless you know your spot ,finding a good spotointhe dark is difficult at best. Bring some binocs so you can glass for birds and see where they are working BilletHead 1 The answer may not lie at the bottom of a glass, but you should always check
Fish Bork Posted December 24, 2015 Author Posted December 24, 2015 Thanks for the help, went to unit 4 because that's where Google Maps took me. Found a spot in the flooded trees and camped out. Learned a bunch about decoy placement and working on my shooting lanes while in the trees. Had a fair amount of ducks work and should have probably come home with a few but the stars didn't align. Gonna try it again tomorrow curtisce and BilletHead 2 Time flies like an arrow. Fruit flies like a banana.
Fish Bork Posted December 28, 2015 Author Posted December 28, 2015 Went out again Christmas Eve and learned even more. Went left two pools over which seemed to be where the birds were and no boats as they had to pull over the road to get to. Had to move three times to get to where they really wanted me to be. Finally got a crack more than one shot and figured out I was looking over my barrel which helped the next time and I finally dropped one. But that was that and I had to get home for dinner. Birds were flying all morning but very skittish, either I needed to work my decoys or work on hiding better. BilletHead 1 Time flies like an arrow. Fruit flies like a banana.
