mic Posted December 22, 2015 Posted December 22, 2015 Maybe I'm the only one who does tie nymphs like this, with wire or thread, but I will from here on out. Davie McPhail is a master fly tier and if you are a YouTube fan, I would recommend you subscribe to his channel. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=st-f_S-Zwrg
dave potts Posted December 22, 2015 Posted December 22, 2015 Yea, he has some excellent videos and is a fantastic tyer. But it takes a while to get through his accent.
mic Posted December 22, 2015 Author Posted December 22, 2015 20 years in the Air Force (people and spouses from every where) and living all over the world... that accent doesn't get to me. I still struggle with a heavy Indian (as in the continent) and a heavy Cajun accents. I had a boss once from Louisiana. When his parents came to visit, I could not understand a thing they said.
rFisherk Posted December 23, 2015 Posted December 23, 2015 Very simple and easy ties--too simple, I believe, to be very effective. Not buggy enough. I like the standard pheasant tail nymph, the hare's ear and the squirrel nymph. And of these three, the squirrel nymph is my long time favorite.

Actually this is pretty close to frank sawyers original pheasant tail nymph pattern. If I remeber correctly he tied it a little differently but the only two materials used were copper wire and pheasant tail fibers. The peacock herl, legs, thread and bead heads are new additions.

Ever seen a decent stick with a zebra midge? XP 590 1
