ness Posted January 5, 2016 Posted January 5, 2016 http://www.nikon.com/news/2016/0106_camera_05.htm Still kinda trying to get my head around this. It's obviously a challenger to the GoPro cameras. But I'm not sure how you're going to view the output from this thing.Best I can figure is it's gonna be kinda like Street View on Google, where you can scroll up/down/left/right and change the view -- except with video. Does this mean you can pretend to record your kid's Christmas program but actually scroll around the gym checking out the hot moms in the audience? I can see that being useful. Sounds pretty groundbreaking to me, but I'm not too up-to-date on this stuff. Not a lot of information available at this time. John
Flysmallie Posted January 5, 2016 Posted January 5, 2016 Yeah It was just announced so nobody knows for sure what it will do or how it will work. I doubt it will be that much competition for GoPro, probably geared more towards the serious film makers and I bet the price will be pretty steep as well.
ness Posted January 13, 2016 Author Posted January 13, 2016 Yeah -- two lenses, and they look to be kinda serious ones if each captures 180-degrees? It'll be interesting to see how these things work. Gonna piece two 180s together without distortion? Probably not a $300 camera. I did read up a little this morning, and it looks like this is aimed at the Virtual Reality headset wearing dudes. Which kinda makes sense now. Here's a video: John
Flysmallie Posted January 13, 2016 Posted January 13, 2016 Probably another flop for them. They should really stick with what they know. And I'm a Nikon guy. But it's probably just a marketing strategy just like 4K on the GoPro. If you are shooting 4K to post it on Youtube you have just wasted resources.
ness Posted January 13, 2016 Author Posted January 13, 2016 Well, who knows. I know my life isn't exciting enough to record video of, especially the stuff going on behind me. And, I don't care to watch much of others' adventures in 2D when it's through a fish-eye lens, much less through some contraption on my head. I guess I got my fill of that at Disney World. John
