Guest Posted January 25, 2016 Posted January 25, 2016 I've been listening to all the hype surrounding the Lew's BB1. It casts a mile, the braking system is superior, etc. So, I fork over $150 on a new crank bait reel only to get it home & realize it's gotta design flaw. Apparently, David Fritts decided it would be a good idea to put slack in the handle. Meaning, the anti reverse allows the handle to slam backwards when stopped. I really hate it. It's not really anti reverse if it does that. What gives? So, it's going back to cabelas for store credit. Might try the revo winch. As my quest to find to perfect 5:1 gear ratio reel continues.
Guest Posted January 25, 2016 Posted January 25, 2016 I found this article, that explains it all. But I'm not sure I want to deal with extra play in the handle. http://www.lews.com/news-102412.php
mixermarkb Posted January 25, 2016 Posted January 25, 2016 try it, I love mine. If you don't like it I'll trade you for a BB-1z, which is the 5:1 with the modern zero antireverse. I gotta say I like the two I have with the multi stop reverse better for cranking though.
dtrs5kprs Posted January 25, 2016 Posted January 25, 2016 They make a version of the BB that has infinite anti-reverse. Model number ends in Z. Might be able to swap it out. They were trying to duplicate, and improve on the old Lews reels. Had heard the old school deep crank guys wanted that play because it would let the bait have more free floating action on a pause after deflecting and such. Essentially, the anti-reverse reels fight the bait, keep moving it, etc., on a pause.
mixermarkb Posted January 25, 2016 Posted January 25, 2016 Or if you really hate it, cabelas probably can trade the BB-1 for a BB-1z.
Guest Posted January 25, 2016 Posted January 25, 2016 I thought I did my research, but yall really know your stuff. I will give it a try this weekend. If I dont like it then I will give the BBZ a try. I REALLY liked the centrifugal brake! It also seems to cast just as far as the Revo with half the effort. Thats a big deal when cranking in the wind for 8hrs straight.

Guest Posted January 25, 2016 Posted January 25, 2016 The Lews Tournament MG that I've got has a magnetic braking system. I'm going to sell it or trade it, because I'm not very good with mag breaks.
Alex Heitman Posted January 25, 2016 Posted January 25, 2016 I have 4 BB1 pros and they are my favorite reel. Cast as far as you want. Did you get the BB1 regular one and not the pro? I would recommend the pro

Did you get the BB1 regular one and not the pro? I would recommend the pro I didn't get the pro. It was the $150 model. What makes the pro a better reel? I consider myself an educated angler, but I can't keep up with all the various models & varieties of baitcasters.
