nhornback Posted February 10, 2016 Posted February 10, 2016 Own kayaks now so wife and I will be doing much more floating and want to try new stretches of river. Can anyone tell me the river miles between shelvin rock access and the hootentown bridge? Never floated that stretch, looks like a solid day float... Thanks Nhorn
Chief Grey Bear Posted February 10, 2016 Posted February 10, 2016 Just over 6 miles. About a half day float if you ain't fishing. crappie_adams83 Posted February 18, 2016 Posted February 18, 2016 If your fishing it's a great solid day float and if you see me it in the pelican or the pontoon say hi if every body had a pole and a fish on the line there would never be a war
RSBreth Posted February 24, 2016 Posted February 24, 2016 You already got it answered - it's about a half day float, could stretch it to most of the day if you fish and go real slow. For me it's one of my least productive fishing spots on the James, with the exception of the confluence of the James and Finley just upstream from Hooten. From a pure fishing standpoint I'd do the Hooten to H.L Kerr float. crappie_adams83 1
crappie_adams83 Posted February 24, 2016 Posted February 24, 2016 Me and my fishing buddy did that float last year with his wife and made it a three day float and yes there is much better fishing down from hootentown if every body had a pole and a fish on the line there would never be a war

Trav Posted February 26, 2016 Posted February 26, 2016 The two best areas of the James is the confluences of the Finley and the Crane. Both areas give you a couple miles or so of good holes. Use Chompers for sure... "May success follow your every cast." - Trav P. Johnson
