Members gwh Posted February 18, 2016 Members Posted February 18, 2016 Looks like a 20% reduction in stocked fish for the park. Here is the link to the Lebanon paper story. http://www.lebanondailyrecord.com/news/local/article_23ff9c58-d5c1-11e5-a7e1-7faa6a5f1b07.html Fewer fish going to rivers also. The Springfield paper reported 2,200 expected for opening day and 75,000 fish to be stocked, I think they are off there. Heard from someone that attended the meeting that they are working on cleaning up the park, sand a big item. Trying to do some dredging, but getting the equipment is a issue.
fishinwrench Posted February 18, 2016 Posted February 18, 2016 Bigger and way more technologically advanced Hatchery = Less fish. Got it.

Wrench, you did hear that the hatchery flooded and they lost a bunch of the newly hatched trout right??? Supposed to have gotten some from SOH to replace them. Sounds like to me that they should have left the operation up on the higher side of the old hatchery.
XP 590 Posted February 18, 2016 Posted February 18, 2016 75,000? I think that's an extra 0! That's 34 fish per person. I read elsewhere it's 7500.

What I heard was that they DIDN'T lose many at all, but were concerned about POSSIBLY loosing some in the future from "delayed mortality". Havens said, “The reason being is these flood events happen and, granted, we didn’t lose any fish to mortality where we absolutely just lost fish, but we don’t know what chronically might pop up throughout the season. When these fish undergo the stress of a flood event, a lot of times you don’t initially have fish loss, but over the next months you see mortality rise.”

Go on Weavers website and they have some info from Havens posted on there. According to that, there were a bunch of eggs and hatchlings washed away.
