Members flydude
Has anyone here had difficulties getting St. Croix to return emails? I have a Pre-IPC Avid that has some dings in the first 2 sections and I wanted to know if they were still available and what it would cost me. This rod has a warranty but I'm at fault for the dings.I understand the warranty does not cover this. When I contacted Customer Service they responded quickly and wanted the mod# & sn# of the rod. This was Monday. I sent the #'s Monday evening and got no response. By Tues. evening I replied to their email again and no response. Wednesday I started all over with a new email to customer service and still I have no response. I've explained to them that I wanted to pay for new sections but I guess they aren't interested and I'm fed-up with trying. Should I be more patient or stop giving them my business? Danoinark
Flydude Just my opinion but it appears they should have gotten back with you. I would try calling customer service and explain that you have sent numerous emails for an answer. If the customer service rep is haughty or doesn't give you any satisfaction then I would ask to speak with someone up the totem pole. I bet you will get some closure that way especially if you express your dissasisfaction by saying they may have lost a customer. Ham
I own 3 St Croix flyrods, 2 St Croix baitcasters, and a handful of St Croix spinning rods. I say this not to brag, but to show that I like St Croix products. I had a less than stellar experience with an Avid spinning rod issue. I sent emails, made phone calls, and sent written instructions and comments. Eventually I got the problem dealt with. I wasn't thrilled with the service though. I've heard great stories aout their Customer service and horrible stories so it does seem to be hit or miss. St Croix plays the little guy as a marketing stratagy, but they must be large enough to have good employees and average at best employees working in customer service. I'd try the phone call route. Maybe that will work better for you. Every Saint has a past, every Sinner has a future. On Instagram @hamneedstofish
Members fishingjim
I used to use Falcon rods until I had a similar experience as yours. Now I use St Croix and have never had a problem. Maybe the store you bought it at could help you.
Members flydude
Unfortunately, the Fly shop that I purchased it at has gone out of business. Can't seem to keep them in East Texas. While I still had everything fresh on my mind I called St. Croix and left a long message on their service center line. If it doesn't get returned after all the emails, I'll just never give St. Croix my business again. There are too many good rod companies out there for me to waste my time begging and pleading with one. Since they are American made hopefully they will do what should be done. All I wanted was to purchase parts for a warranteed rod.
Thom
I just purchased a St. Croix rod and really like it. 4 wgt 8' premier on closeout. HOWEVER, I read the 5 year warrantee small print. It basically says....Unless you saw someone step on your rod on the assemblly line don't bother making a claim. It only covers defects in manufacturing and requires a prettly stiff proof to make good on that. Maybe it is only to discourage claims and they will follow through. I have sent my Orvis back twice with absolutely no questions asked. The last time they didn't even charge shipping. Both times the tip was broken and was my fault without question. Not to smart laying a 250 dollar rod on the dock. That is unfortunate that an american company like St. Croix has such questionable customer service. I really like the rod but would not probly (new work I learned on OAF) invest lots of cash in another St.Croix. Thom Harvengt
Members Bill McC
I have used St Croix customer service twice. I have always have had excellent results. They have even taken care things that were my fault. I will admit I own way to many of thier rods. Only bought one that I didn't like and didn't keep, it was a triupmh. Pissed me off I thought I bought an entry levdel spinning rod that was good quality, I am not saying it was not, I but Croix cause they are great rods made in the USA. The triupmh is made in China. They made this right!!! I am the one who didn't read the label. I don't feel they need to compete in a Wally World setting. I will continue to take my business local, if they can't supply my fly fishing needs, and they really can't [they get thiers on the hunting side] I will continue to use Phil and another fly shop at my favorite placde to fly fish. Thom
Thanks for your feedback Bill. I really do like the St. Croix but got a little edgy when I read the disclaimers on the warrantee. It makes me feel better about my purchase. The times I fished the San Jaun in NM all the guide that I used fish with were St. Croix rods. I agree about checking out the local flyshops first. Their isn't much difference in the prices and the ones in Branson area are all a pleasure to do business with. Never got much good fishing advice from the clerk at walmart. Guest flyfishBDS
We were a St Croix rep for a number of years while i was in the store. Never had anything but good service from them on customer rods. They were as good as anyone else we dealt with. The only instance we had where a customer had to pay for breakage was the guy who ran over his rod with the truck Where we had problems with them was dealer service _ similar to yours, but that's not something I'd be worried about as a rod buyer. They do make veyr nice fly rods. Cheers Steve
Members flydude
Well, impatience has gotten me in trouble again. St. Croix service finally contacted me and their email has been down about a week among other problems because of the stormy weather. I should have thought of that since I lived in Kansas several years and have seen nasty winter weather. When I'm wrong I say it. The person I spoke with was very nice. I won't be sending the rod in because it will cost more than I want to spend to replace the first 2 sections. If they even can since it's pre-ipc.Please disregard my negative comments about St. Croix. The service center seems to be very helpful.
