Members nichalos82 Posted March 21, 2016 Members Posted March 21, 2016 Hey everyone, my name is Nick! I'm 33 years young and a newbie to fly fishing, but have been spin fishing since I was kid! Look forward to meeting you all and will gladly accept any advice/tips as I begin to explore this new world of fly fishing and fly tying!

Russell Doughty Posted March 21, 2016 Posted March 21, 2016 Nick, DO NOT TAKE UP FLY FISHING. Take up something like cocaine, crack or meth that doesn't cost a lot of money and that you can give up any time you like. Seriously, you will find the greatest bunch of people in the fly fishing fraternity you ever met. Read all you can and watch you tube and dvd's about the sport, but most importantly find a good fly fisher to take you out and show you the ropes. A day on the water with a mentor can teach you what would take you months or years to learn on your own. Buy his or her gas and lunch on your trips to make it worth their while. Hang out in fly shops, too. Plateau in Springfield across from Incredible Pizza is one of the best, as is Tim's Fly Shop at Roaring River in Cassville. Let us know how you are progressing.
Smallieguy87 Posted March 21, 2016 Posted March 21, 2016 Welcome to the forums. I've considered fly fishing myself so it maybe you giving me advice sometime.

I here you Russell! I have already discovered that and how the money disappears easily! YouTube has been my friend! I am starting to see my technique improving but Simon have a long way to go! Can't beat the advice of a master with you who knows the ropes and the streams but locally, don't know anyone. I've been taking advantage of a few fly shops but I still have yet to stop at Tim's but it's been on my mind for awhile.
