Blll Posted March 26, 2016 Posted March 26, 2016 Too nice to stay in. Water temp in Bear cove 49 at 10am. Tried to find crappies for 2 hours with no luck. Did catch a 15" striper on crappie rig which was fun. Switched to bass. Tourney guys on most points, pockets and coves. Could not get a pattern going. Caught 3 spots 10"-13" one on a wart, grub and ned. Most areas wt 51-53. It was warmer last week. I think our early Spring is back to normal. Beautiful day but stiff breeze. Great to be out.
Dan the fisherman Posted March 27, 2016 Posted March 27, 2016 Bill, I've been fishing beaver for 6 years now. I'm still learning the lake, where's bear cove at? I don't think I've ever heard of that cove. Catching that striper on crappie rig sounds like a Lance special lol. It was a really nice day though. I wish I would have spent more time out. Only got a couple of hrs in today before I to come in. I guess couple is better than none ??.
Blll Posted March 27, 2016 Author Posted March 27, 2016 Bear cove is just to the west of the Rt.12 ramp, really just a pocket. Where my slip is. Difference with Lance is he's killing the Crappie. LOL.
Dan the fisherman Posted March 27, 2016 Posted March 27, 2016 Ah ok. Got ya. There's so many pockets and coves on beaver. Thanks though.
Lance34 Posted March 27, 2016 Posted March 27, 2016 Bill, move into bigger creeks, drift minnows along the creek channels . The big females whites are just holding out suspended in open water waiting to courtship. And... If weather has been stable the Black crappie should be on the bank in thick lay downs. Use a thill 1/16oz slip bobber with a 1/16 jig head and BG lights out color baby shad. And dip it in there so not to spook them. Or do what I do and free line it working the jig from top to bottom. Blll Posted March 27, 2016 Author Posted March 27, 2016 Thanks for the good tips Lance. Crappies up north mostly relate to weed lines but here......I'll get on them soon with your tips. Thanks again!
Stump bumper Posted March 27, 2016 Posted March 27, 2016 I have drooped my camera into the ceder trees up Ventrias before looking for bass and the limbs were loaded with crappie and blue gills, yet I find very few people fishing those trees. Blll 1
