Seems  sensible

here's the second question

use crappie for instance    I beleive  in the lake I'm allowed 15 daily for a total of 30 possesion

so in the same river .... I think I'm allowed 30 daily for a total of 60 possesion    I assume??

this is another reason I'm asking as I know several won't

btw 1/16 head and curly grub worked on bottom in 7 foot around rock   is workin

It's still the same rule, only one daily limit in your boat, however now you have added a second twist with the river.  Lets say you launch in the lake and travel up river beyond the legal limit of the lake and are into river Regs with a limit of 30 crappie and no length limit.  You have a good day and head back with a limit of 30 crappie in your boat as soon as you cross back into the lake boundary you are back to a daily limit of 15 and length limit of 10 inches and are in violation.  I have nearly violated it myself at times, but am very careful and if in question or in doubt always go with the more restrictive regs.

I was finishing up at Stockton several years ago when I saw an agent give someone a ticket after the agent had left I asked them why they have gotten a ticket the intern said he gave them a ticket because they put in on a Lakeside even though they were fishing on the the Riverside and he had told him since he put in on the lake side they had to follow Lake rules firstly once again we're splitting hairs you fishing the river the river rules should apply but an agent wants to know where you put your boat in it so if you put your boat in in the lake they want you to follow Lake rules regardless of where your fishing but logic says you should follow River rules fishing The River Why it matters where you put your boat in is stupid once again they are splitting hairs

MoPanfisher, I sure appreciate your  input on this topic, it has been interesting.    I don't think you all are splitting hairs at all. Back to walleye for a minute...some states get very picky about when to catch walleye in the river. And I am sure in the right situation a Missouri game warden would too. I haven't read it in awhile but once you are in the river you can only fish 1/2 hour after dark and a 1/2 hour before light, on the lake you can catch a spawning walleye all night.

I beleive This to be correct   Dan

the other day when I was fishing on both sides of the dam is what put my mind to this    Had that not occurred I'd probly continued to read your fine  thread  and never said a word

I once got into trouble with the law  when I was younger   Our 200 acres of beans   I could  light my cattle   I could light my beans   I couldn't  light the deer

i wished to maybe help some people

Most all the offenses  are just a slight infraction and the court systems will set it right with a small fine and  say  it taken care of  please keep your receipt

but if it happened more than once something worse could happen

my bow hunting and fishing makes me able to brush life of my back  and not hurt someone    ------    Now as time moves forward  age and a broken back  and our creator  seem to be more effective

fisher I spoke with you because I beleived  you  new the game laws I had a  agent as a  adjoining neighbor for 27 years  and eent to high school with a fine fellow that became a replacement  warden

sure  enjoy  your conversations

headed to lake solo    Mary has razer loaded with flowers and  says she's got somethin funer to do

lol

From February 20 through April 14, walleye and sauger can be taken and possessed only between 1/2 hour before sunrise and 1/2 after sunset. This restriction applies to all streams, except the Missouri and Mississippi rivers.  You are still under the restrictions in the river until April 14th.  Otherwise if you have your boat on the lake waters at any point and get checked by an Agent you will have to follow lake regulations, not the river.  I may well be biased toward knowing the regs, I have been around the lakes my whole life, and worked with several Agents, and at one time wanted to be one, so what to me makes perfect sense, or at least is clearly written is sometimes not so clear to everyone else.  Generally getting caught is a fine, however repeated violations can go beyond the court system to the MDC Commission who can revoke a hunting or fishing license for a set period.  I am a tightwad and don't want to pay a fine, and don't want to lose my Hunter Ed. Instructor credentials after having them for almost 25 years.  I will also add that the Agents, Cedar County I believe is Derek Farwell and Tyler Green, Polk County is Susie Swem and Keith Wollard, they are good folks who have a tough job with a combination of black and white regs and lots of grey area, don't hesitate to ask them questions, they will always rather have a conversation than have to write a ticket.  Should you opt to go ahead and do what you think would be correct instead of what is written in the wildlife code, you stand a very good chance of getting away with it, however any one of the agents will have no problem reading you the text of the regulation word for word while writing out a ticket.  They will even explain the reasoning behind the code.

I understand the river code and lake code differences. I guess I can understand the boat ramp thing ie. where you put your boat in. To be honest I never really thought of the possibility of a violation until we all started looking into it. I always go with the lake laws and limits, because I will be back out in the lake at some point during my trip. No conflict for me.

Not bragging, but my wife and I caught enough post spawn crappie last year, we set our own length limit of 12".

Really it's about keeping more and better fish in OUR water. My motto is "When in doubt, chuck it out."

I have really enjoyed learning how to catch walleye from Stockton, I would like to take as many home with me as the law will allow, but I equality want a large healthy population with the possibility of a wall hanger. I don't mind throwing some back.

Maybe when I get good at it I will set my own walleye length limit at 20" who knows

I have been on trips where I set my own limit above the minimum length, on others I was dang glad to catch one that barely measured.  A good healthy population is the ideal, whether I catch them or not.  Crappie seem to go through cycles depending on the year class, 3 to 4 years after a high water event it is usually good, but bad weather or lake conditions can make catching them tough even if they get a good spawn.  Last year was a good example, tough year to catch them with the repeated rains and raising lake but they spawned and had plenty of cover to  hide in.  Give them a few years to grow and should be awesome.  Although the size structure right now is pretty darn good.

Hope I did not offend anyone with my comments that was not my intentions when I go to Truman I don't keep anything under 10 inches I guess I just have a problem with people telling me how to live or what to do with my own house I'd also don't understand why we have gray areas tell me everything should be written to be cut and dry it should not be like reading the Bible and left to interpretation I too grew up with an agent he's still an agent to this day and he's a good maybe some of you have gotten the wrong idea if it's just 10 inches I don't I don't keep my insurance if it says 15 inches I don't keep 14 inches but they only want me to keep so many fish in my freezer then it should be worded that way good fish and God bless

I am not offended in the least, everyone has the right to keep whatever size over the minimum they wish.  Most of the rules are pretty clear, maybe we don't always agree with them but fairly clear to me anyway. I was talking with an agent this morning and he verified the lake to river back to lake as you have to abide by the lake regs ditto on the catch a limit and put in cooler in boat before midnight then catch a second limit as being a violation.  Reasons for both are fairly clear, no way to know when or where the fish were caught.
