drew03cmc Posted April 5, 2016 Author Posted April 5, 2016 Hog Wally, is that a Sluggo? Does anyone toss swim jigs for smallmouth in creeks and rivers? Ive taken to liking them in place of my spinnerbaits in east Kansas, city and county lakes, and was wondering if they may work, depending on color, clarity and forage. There's streams I fish without shad, but loaded with gills and longear, perhaps a gill colored one there or in larger rivers with shad or skipjack, a white, silvery colored one. If I'm overthinking this, say so, but please, continue to contribute to my madness. Andy
Gavin Posted April 10, 2016 Posted April 10, 2016 Love swim jigs. Usually 1/2 oz with a 4"-5" grub or swim bait trailer.
drew03cmc Posted April 10, 2016 Author Posted April 10, 2016 I may have to give them a shot on the rivers. I think they'd work along the weedbeds and through wood structure. Andy
Gavin Posted April 12, 2016 Posted April 12, 2016 Like shad colors mostly on bigger rivers when the water is up a tad. They stay deeper than spinnerbaits of equal weight. not a bait to load the boat, but it catches better than average fish mostly.
stlfisher Posted April 14, 2016 Posted April 14, 2016 I have to agree with another poster that I much prefer Shad Assassin to a Fluke. They are bit heavier which I think helps. 4/0 and it works fine for me. There are a lot of 'fluke" like baits on the market. The actual fluke would probably be the last one I would choose to be honest. Love me some jigs as well swimming or not. I swim "regular" jigs as well. I even swim them over vegetation if needed. No wrong way to fish them at all, which his why I like it. You can make several presentations with one bait and they tend to be a big fish bait.
