I'm wanting to make my first float on the James sometime in the next couple weekends and wondered if anyone had any recommendations for a shuttle service? I've got a pontoon that I float in and generally am just looking for someone to move my vehicle for me. I know there are several campgrounds and canoe rentals but I'm generally just looking for a shuttle and they can be harder to locate. I'm really not sure what section I want to fish (as I said it's my first trip to this river) so at this point I'll take any suggestions for a shuttle on any section of river you've got...as long as there are a few smallmouth around!

Thanks in advance for any info!!

I can't swear to it, but I think that JRO (James River Outfitters) in Galena does some shuttles, but it is mostly for floaters renting equipment from them. It is still pretty early for their season, so may not even be anyone answering the phone this time of year. Wouldn't hurt to give them a call and find out, that's where I would start.

Remember - If at first you DO succeed, try not to act surprised & quit while you're ahead.

You can check with hooten town if you are wanting to float the upper river. Not sure on prices but they should be able to take care of ya. Or if you go on one of my days off I could possibly help you out. Pm me.

Thanks for the info guys...

Last year I called them (JRO) to see if they would shuttle my vehicle and drift boat trailer from horse creek to galena and they said because of insurance purposes they couldn't.

No one gripes about obese fish.

Weird, maybe something has changed. They have driven plenty of my vehicles over the years. The times I have used them recently though I've just tossed my canoe on their trailer.

Last I checked the outfitters at hootentown will either shuttle you or drive your vehicle back to their parking lot and you can float down to it.
