Members chomper Posted April 6, 2016 Members Posted April 6, 2016 I boat up from Aldrich. The furthest I've found good fish is within sight of Taylor bridge. The bigger ones are in the deep pools. They are moving up slow but seem a little further up from the previous weekends. All the big ones I kept were full of roe. I fished 5-6 hours Sunday and quit by 3 pm. Literally wore out casting and hook setting. It was an awesome outting ! bassfisher 1
Members 6lbstest Posted April 6, 2016 Members Posted April 6, 2016 That's great to hear, been bank fishing around Orleans for the last couple weekends with little luck, sounds like I might need to go ahead and move up, what's been their favorite, hope I'm not prying too much.

We kept some the last time that didn't turn out very well, meat was a little chewy. Even removed the red meat. Maybe we kept them too big. Any recommendations?
Members eagle1584 Posted April 6, 2016 Members Posted April 6, 2016 Kramr, I've always found the White Bass meat to be a bit "sensitive" unlike a lot of fish. Either be sure to keep them alive until you're ready to filet them or go right from the line on to ice. I've found that really helps. The meat seems to degrade really quickly for some reason. My grandpa always made us soak them in milk for a hour or so before we cooked them so I've continued that tradition but I'm not sure if it makes a difference or not. If you're eating a lot of walleye and crappie the meat will feel a bit different no matter what you do.
slab slinger Posted April 7, 2016 Posted April 7, 2016 Looks like you had a great day hammer. Hope to run into you again on Stockton this year.
Members chomper Posted April 7, 2016 Members Posted April 7, 2016 Here's a tip 6lbstest. If you have a stout baitcasting rod/reel....spool on some heavy braided line...go get yourself a 5 wire a-rig with blades on each wire...3/16 oz jig heads...4 inch grubs (white ice or ghost shad) and get up past the old steel bridge. Fish the deep holes below the shallows. I fished this way 3 weekends in a row and caught 30+ each trip. All but a handful were dinks. Of all the boats jammed in up there last Sunday I saw not ONE single person reeling in a fish. But then again...I was the only one throwing a rig. Yeah....I just gave away a personal secret...but some of us are out there for the same reasons....fishing and having fun !! Plenty for everyone ! Hope this helps. Now go get 'um !! slab slinger, packersooner and crappie-hunter 3
