I was thinking of purchasing a Canon XTi Digital SLR and was wondering if anyone on the forum has one, or has an opinion about them; or any other SLR for that matter. I was also thinking of purchasing Adobe Photoshop along with the new camera. Any thoughts or ideas about that would be appreciated as well.

Thanks

My wife and several friends have the older model (Canon XT) and all of them are very happy with it. I'd also take a look at the Nikon D series. It would be hard to go wrong with either. Cheers.

how much are you wanting or willing to spend? that is probably a big factor in the decision.

Been thinking about the same camera.

Im more familiar with Photoshop. I learnt to use it several years ago and Im way off being an expert I know how it works so for resizing slight adjustments I can do it fast.

But I use about 5% of Photoshop's potential _ and sometimes for creating simple web edits low res stuff I use other programs easy and dirty.

Photoshop can do so much sometimes its complexities can be overpowering, and it can take a while to learn. But if you need grunt there is nothing better.

You can't go wrong with Canon, we use the 20D in our action sports shoots with a high speed Ultra sonic zoom lens. We can take 5 pics of a hardball as it goes into bat with high detail. Canon has been the leader in digital SLR. Pentax and Sony are great too. Minolta was doing good and they dropped the ball, they sold out to Sony. As far as software, Photoshop Elements will give you more editing for the money than you will ever need and will save you some bucks too.

i have a pentax k100d and i like it a lot.

when i only had a film camera,i tended to shoot a lot and then never get the pics developed. now i can experiment and see the results almost instantly.

one drawback to this model though is the small buffer, which results in a slower continous shooting mode. i understand this isnt as much of a problem with other brands and even the k10 pentax. but at half the price,i was ready to buy. i bought this camera at buydig.com for $552 with an 18-55 lense as a kit. got a $100 rebate check and deposited it in the bank. just recently purchased a 75-300 tamron lense and was outside shooting the moon last night.

im liking it even more. trouble is,my tripod doesnt seem to be up to snuff.

looks like another exspense is on the way.
