Members cleabig Posted April 25, 2016 Members Posted April 25, 2016 I'm heading there for a week of vacation in June. I will not have a boat. I'm considering hiring a guide for a day. What are your thoughts/advice?
Jerry Rapp Posted April 25, 2016 Posted April 25, 2016 we go down there in the spring and fall usually. Nice, relaxing time for sure. No commercializing at all. I have fished in the surf during the day. Not much anything exciting, at least for me. Throw out some frozen shrimp and tightline, catch some little drum(redifsh?) Every once in a while there will be some fish busting in the surf and you can catch some little fish of some kind on a trap or one minus. Some of the folks say you need to be out at daylight in the surf to catch good redfish. When we go down there, it is R&R strictly, and daylight will be gone about an hour after I wake up and get the coffee going. There is a marina on the left side of the bridge you come across to get to the island. I have went down there around noon and seen some boats come in with some decent fish of some kind. I have thought about a redfish/sea trout trip with a guide who will fish shallow like bass fishing, but just never done it. A lot of the guides go out around the oil rigs, but I have no desire to reel up a fish out of 100+ foot of water.
