My in-laws have asked me to run up and take them fishing for the day in two weeks.  They are staying at a river resort in Forsyth for a few days.  I have never been on any part of Taneycomo and am not sure what to expect.  They are older and their only plan is to enjoy the day with their wonderful son-in-law and hopefully catch a few fish to stay busy during a morning or afternoon trip.  We will be fishing from a Supreme river boat with trolling motor.

What should we target for quantity not necessarily quality?

Should we stay below 65 for various species or head up river and trout fish?

What is the current like if they are generating at the time?  We can drift or anchor or use trolling motor if needed.

A good scenario would be if there is any still water to be found.  Throwing live bait on bottom or a float would suit them fine.

Any and all comments are welcomed and appreciated.

Phil, Ducky, and Bill Babbler (and a host of other side) have posted lots of great information on fishing Taneycomo. Look for reports just prior to your trip to get a feel for what is going on.

I am very far from a Taneycomo expert. I've fished it three times, but we whacked me everytime I have fished it. Two trips with current and one trip without.

I would expect drift rigs fished bouncing along the bottom will produce BUT I'm sure there will be trip reports.

I agree with ham I'm no expert but are y'all going to be in a boat and if so I agree with ham get some worms and run up to fall creek marina and drift down it will be fun for sure

if every body had a pole and a fish on the line there would never be a war

I am Ham and I'd always suggest Zig Jigs if you are a Thump Junkie like me, but drift rigs with worms will most definitely get some bites. As with any fishing, pay attention to what you are doing so that when you get bit, you can repeat that behavior and most likely get more bites. It should not be difficult. You should catch fish.

Probably should have reported back, but didn't have much to report.

The resort we launched from was way down river, almost to Powersite Dam.  That far from TR dam is basically lake fishing and we weren't totally prepared for those conditions.  Due to a few different circumstances we only fished up river about a mile.  We were fishing for trout with powerbait and live worms and having no success, when I noticed many of the docked boats had kicker motors and the few folks that were fishing that day were basically trolling.

I had a few baits we were able to troll with and caught a couple small fish before finishing at lunch.

Next trip I'll be up by the dam trout fishing in moving water like we're use to in AR. I'd rather park cars for the Baldnobbers all day than go back to lower Taney, Those that call that their home water have my respect.
