Members Wilcox Posted March 5, 2007 Members Posted March 5, 2007 Hello everyone, I stumbled across this site while looking for information a few days ago about a trip that i am planning. I have talked to a few of you already and find that the trip is just looking better and better. I live in a small town of about 3000 people, Amery WI. Right now we are buried with about 2 feet of snow and we still have another month of winter to go even before i can think about digging my boat out of storage. I fish for Crappies and Blue gills durring the winter through the ice. When spring rolls around we have to wait until usually about the first week in may to start fishing for game fish again. Largemouth bass are in about every lake around here. It really is hard to find one without them. That is what i do, I BASS FISH!!! Most days in the summer, when i am not working, I am out on the lake in search of the monster. There is an abundance of lakes to fish, but the average size is between 500-1000 acres. Don't let the small lake sizes fool you into thinking that i have never caught any big fish. I have a 22 1/2 inch. Large mouth that weighed 7lbs 3oz live weight. 6lb 8oz one week later after being frozen. This is showed as my personal picture, and yes that was about 7 years ago now. Last summer my best fish was 5lbs 4oz. Since my 7 pounder, which is on my wall, I can count the number of bass i have kept, and only kept those because they were dead, on one hand. I fish a few local tournaments for fun and have started fishing the Fishers' of Men Tourney Trail. My brother has been fishing them for years but i am just starting now that i am going to be out of school this coming summer. Fishing isn't just something to pass the time for me, it is a full blown obsession. Most important of all is my faith in Jesus Christ. I have been raised in a christian home and highly regard the values of my parents. I take my walk with god very seriously. Well if you have made it through reading all of this i am really looking forward to talkin' fishin you. Thank you for reading and God Bless Jordan Wilcox God Bless, Jordan Wilcox
Flysmallie Posted March 5, 2007 Posted March 5, 2007 Welcome to the forum Wilcox. You've found an excellant spot to feed your obsession.
Root Admin Phil Lilley Posted March 5, 2007 Root Admin Posted March 5, 2007 It's good to have so many people from all parts of the country here. It is amazing the difference in climate between the north and south... I have a good friend in Michigan that keeps up to date on his weather. They get lake affect snow- has had 24 inches in a week and more coming this week. Crazy. But he said the steelhead are starting to spawn in his river (Pere Marquette). Can't imagine fishing in that kind of conditions... oh yea I didn't once. IT IS CRAZY! Welcome Jeff.
Terry Beeson Posted March 5, 2007 Posted March 5, 2007 ...I live in a small town of about 3000 people... That ain't that small... I grew up in a "town" so small it only had a store, post office, and school. My mom was the school teacher, my dad the mailman, and my sister ran the store... Now THAT'S small... (about 100 population... still...) ...Don't let the small lake sizes fool you into thinking that i have never caught any big fish. I have a 22 1/2 inch. Large mouth that weighed 7lbs 3oz live weight. 6lb 8oz one week later after being frozen. Yes sir those small lakes can hold big fish. When I was a kid, I was with my dad on the farm when he went to check on an older couple fishing in the 45 acre lake located in one corner of the farm. While we were there, the lady caught a fish (on a cane pole by the way...) She fought it for about 15 minutes before her hubby finally grabbed the 9 lb bass. About that time, HIS bobber went under and after another 15 minute fight, HE landed a SECOND 9 lb-er.... Since then I've always LOVED to bass fish small lakes for big bass. My best was a 7 1/2 - 8 lb largemouth on a lake about 65 acres big. I've always wanted to try the Gustafson/Goldman thing and fish through the ice... Well, ice thicker than a couple of inches.... RiverRunner Posted March 5, 2007 Posted March 5, 2007 Welcome to the forum, you are right about the small lakes. If you want to catch a monster bass, I would do nothing but fish ponds or small watershed lakes. I caught a 12 lb largemouth from a 1 1/2 acre pond a few years back that proves my theory. Hope you get to see some spring time weather soon.

Don Posted March 6, 2007 Posted March 6, 2007 Welcome Wilcox, Country boy here that went to school in a small town. I used to catch alot of nice size bass out of small farm ponds when I was young. The nice thing about living in a small town is that when I don't know what I'm doing, there's somebody else who does Don Don May I caught you a delicious bass.
