dan hufferd Posted July 10, 2016 Posted July 10, 2016 I have a 75 hp 2 stroke merc with a happy troller flap, I only use 91 with no ethanol. I went from 3 mph to 0.6 at the lowest idle. I can run a few more "R's" and get the 1.2 to 1.7 mph that I was looking for. For me it was the best alternative. I have a friend that uses drift socks and loves them, I figured that I would get them hung on a tree or rock?? Note: when the wind is at your back you get to breath that nice 2 stroke exhaust all day, that is not fun.

Boat runs perfect, no issues, but Trolling it won't do it. Smokes, Coughs, stutters, 2 strokes are not made for this. I am getting where I love to Troll crankbaits at times. I am forced to use the electric motor to troll plugs on my Nitro. Thinking of selling and Investing in one boat with a newer 4 stroke engine but I hope i could make it one purpose, be able to troll plugs for hours, run place to place etc. How well do the 60-115 HP engines run at idle speed? Could you run them all day at Idle speed and the engine will take it without issue? I know how quiet 4 stroke engines are, I am definitely wanting one. However, maybe they won't do what I hope, to have one boat to do everything I want. Looking at Crestliner Ranger, Tracker series with 60 -115 HP 4 strokes now. My other idea is Buy a Supreme or Shawnee boat with a 20 - 25 HP Yamaha (which I KNOW will troll all day), But Rough weather you won't go fishing, your staying home I have a 9.9 hp kicker motor 4 stroke that I used for trolling on an 18' Lund up in Minnesota that's not being used anymore. (I wrecked the boat getting too close to the rocks on a windy day). This is perfect for trolling. Ties into the big motor for steering. In very good shape. If anyone's interested I will get more details on it. (I own a resort up on Leech Lake that my sister and brother in law run). I don't even remember the manufacturer , I think it's a Honda, but not sure. I know we still have all the cabling etc.
