DADAKOTA Posted June 16, 2016 Posted June 16, 2016 I've been playing with the slow death rig. During our Memorial day trip I used the subtle small blade three bead rigs at the bottom of the picture with great success. Figured I'd tie up some bolder versions with a bigger blade, 6 beads, and a float (top four). What type of SDR rigs are you dragging? dan hufferd and "eyes"haveit 2
Members Hermy Posted June 16, 2016 Members Posted June 16, 2016 I like the plain SD hook on a fluorocarbon leader, but I do like your idea and may start tying some rigs up tonight before I head down.
Kramr Posted June 16, 2016 Posted June 16, 2016 What pound test are you using for the leader? I currently run 8 but thinking about going heavier but worried it might affect the bite.
Members Hermy Posted June 16, 2016 Members Posted June 16, 2016 8Lb is what I use too with a red hook.
rps Posted June 16, 2016 Posted June 16, 2016 Slow death started as a subtle finnesse presentation and still works that way. However, like you, I have made SD rigs with blades. First, put your slow death hook on a tiny swivel. Then use 10 or 12 pound test to lessen the line twist. That way you can use the beads and blades. When I get home I will find the pictures I have of examples.
Kramr Posted June 16, 2016 Posted June 16, 2016 Gonna try rigging some on 10 lbs test to see if that makes a difference in the bite. I know it should make a difference on getting it back when I get hung up. Best way to prevent twist is to use T-turn swivels from Thundermist lures. They work great.
dan hufferd Posted June 16, 2016 Posted June 16, 2016 Hey pink is a very productive color. I am going to try some new stuff tomorrow, It will be something new for me I will post the results. You have some nice stuff. Pink works great, why ? I know shiners will turn pink during the spawn, what else could be pink in the lake? One more thing... Bud's Bait in Carthage has bulk gold rotating hooks, I bought 100 for around $2
Kramr Posted June 16, 2016 Posted June 16, 2016 If you're not (knot) snelling your hooks, you should. It gives you increased knot strength plus, a properly snelled hook increases your chances for a solid hook up. I found a you tube video with the easiest method of doing this. Just make sure the line comes out of the eye on the hook side.
Kramr Posted June 17, 2016 Posted June 17, 2016 Here's the swivel I use to prevent any twisting. http://www.tackledirect.com/thundermist-t-turn-3-way-swivels.html
DADAKOTA Posted June 17, 2016 Author Posted June 17, 2016 I'm using anywhere from an 18" to a 30" leader of 10# fluoro AbrazX on these. One end is tied to the hook and the other to a barrel swivel with all the bling between. Then I clip the barrel swivel onto the snap swivel attached to the bottom bouncer. No loop to get snagged, easy to change rigs, and double the no twist protection. Been running 20# fluoro mainline. My wife and I fished 4 days and lost 2 SDRs, but did not lose a bottom bouncer. Thanks for the video. Just snelled an SD hook and made another rig. Gives it a nice finished look. Wish I could snell the swivel end too.
