Don Posted March 8, 2007 Posted March 8, 2007 I almost got on the bandwagon with you guys, but I don't think that discussing my dink would be appropriate on a public forum. Don Don May I caught you a delicious bass.
Don Posted March 8, 2007 Posted March 8, 2007 For the last couple of years I've been using a little tiny girlyman net and have lost some nice fish because of it. I started using this one last month and I love it. Rubber handle, coated net minimizes hookups, deep enough to allow your fish to breathe in the water, big enough for a lunker, and finally alot of bang for your buck. http://www.frabill.com/cgi-bin/frabill/3671?store=spring Don Don May I caught you a delicious bass.
Flysmallie Posted March 8, 2007 Posted March 8, 2007 What's the best way to carry a net?? And hey Terry, don't say "your hand". Try and be more original than that. I've seen guys with them on their vest, wading belt, and lots of other ways. Heck, MrDucky just puts the lanyard around his neck, well actually it's his head, he has no neck.
Terry Beeson Posted March 8, 2007 Posted March 8, 2007 What's the best way to carry a net?? And hey Terry, don't say "your hand". Try and be more original than that. FYI, I was NOT going to say "your hand"... I was gonna say "Very CAREfully..." I recently picked up the magnetic holder (with some advice from Phil, thanks Phil...) and I LIKE it! One half is on my back and the other half on the end of the net opposite the handle. I reach back, take the net, pull it around, use it to scoop up the dink from the water, and reach around and the magnet seems to find it's other half. No "dragging" the net around in the water and it's really handy. Heck, MrDucky just puts the lanyard around his neck, well actually it's his head, he has no neck. That's not his net lanyard. That's Mrs Ducky's persuader... "C'mere, Ducky... the dishes need cleanin'..." John Berry Posted March 8, 2007 Posted March 8, 2007 I concur with Terry. I use the magnetic net holder. I also carry my net handle down. It seems to get tangled in brush less often when hiking into remote water. I have an elastic cord attached to each magnet so that if I drop my net it is still attached to my vest. Danoinark Posted March 8, 2007 Posted March 8, 2007 I agree. I use the magnetic net release, but I disregard the elastic lanyard, dang thing always get hung up on me somehow. My next purchase is going to be one of those weigh nets from Tim. I am saving my pennies. But my question is for Terry. How the heck do you hang that net of yours with that manbag you carry. Dano I almost got on the bandwagon with you guys, but I don't think that discussing my dink would be appropriate on a public forum. jjtroutbum Posted March 8, 2007 Posted March 8, 2007 I used to use a holstered carry net that was spring loaded attached to my wader belt. It was good since I never really netted anything mainly only kept fish for a shore lunch or elderly neighbor at the last moment. However then came a few times while I was fishing and fish seemed to be having trouble being revived higher water temps, low D.O., what ever was the case. I decided to get a landing net that was more substantial and I could take less time in bringing the catch to hand, hook release, stringer or whatever. So atm I carry a larger catch and release net with the fine mesh bag (which comes in handy to seine the surface to figure out what those rises are all about), a mag release, handle down, safety cord attached. But sometime in the near future I'm going to be building my own net and hope to make it with the solid rubber bag Ever so humbled trying to fool a little pea sized brain, JJ Jon Joy ___________ "A jerk at one end of the line is enough." unknown author The Second Amendment was written for hunting tyrants not ducks. Members armyflyfisher Posted March 8, 2007 Members Posted March 8, 2007 ".......I attached one end of the magnet to my dink" OK, again I realize that I'm new to fly fishing (been slingin' bugs now for about 8 or 9 months) but I'm confused once again! I thought that a "dink" was a small......fish. Guess it could be generalized to mean....small........anything? David
Terry Beeson Posted March 8, 2007 Posted March 8, 2007 Did I say "dink?" I meant my D-ring... Oh... and remember... "That things gotta HEMI!"
