Members BronzebackWarrior Posted July 1, 2016 Members Posted July 1, 2016 Got out early, fished lower mac on foot , a hole past the big confluence a way . slow to start couple dink smalls on jigs , started throwing a crank bait around submerged boulders , nice smallie came in slack area behind a boulder , continued fishing same general area and hooked this walleye ? is that white mark on bottom of tail fin a determining trait? fished another couple hours catching some darn drum . slow but the couple quality fish make me happy . rps and JestersHK 2
Al Agnew Posted July 2, 2016 Posted July 2, 2016 A bit hard to tell from the photo, but it looks like a sauger to me. The big, dark blotches are kinda telltale. However, remember this to positively ID the two...look at the big spiny dorsal fin (on its back). If it has a lot of dark spots all over the membranes, it's a sauger, if it does not have spots except for one dark blotch at the rear (membrane between the last three or so spines), it's a walleye. Walleye also have a much larger white spot on the end of the bottom lobe of the tail. BronzebackWarrior 1
Justin92297 Posted July 2, 2016 Posted July 2, 2016 Personally I have caught way more sauger than walleye on the lower meramac. I agree this does look like a sauger BronzebackWarrior 1
Hog Wally Posted July 2, 2016 Posted July 2, 2016 I personally haven't caught a sauger on the meramec. But I've caught a truck load of walleyes and they have been smaller ones for the last year. Nothing over 22". I'm on my way home from Florida and my boat awaits me. Rain coming so I know the walleye are gonna bite good during daylight hours this weekend.
