buckcreekmike Posted July 19, 2016 Posted July 19, 2016 I am going with the family and will canoe one day - a short float because I'm not sure how the kids will handle it. Can there still be any good fishing in this heat? I will fish regardless, but a little tip could help. Is topwater out of the question? I will be staying/floating near Gilbert.
Al Agnew Posted July 19, 2016 Posted July 19, 2016 Topwater is never out of the question in the summer...the hotter the better as far as I'm concerned. I fish topwater all day long, no matter how hot it is. If they are going to eat at all, they will probably eat a topwater. It ain't like they're in 30 feet of water and have to come a long way up for something on the surface, like lake bass.
Members bagofdonuts Posted July 19, 2016 Members Posted July 19, 2016 I always do well in the summer on a t-rigged yamamoto cut tail worm. But mostly i'd be swimming.
joeD Posted July 20, 2016 Posted July 20, 2016 I've done well before on the Buffalo with big heat. Top water definitely. Super fluke, definitely. We were on the water all day though. And adults. Don't know about your kids. It can become quite miserable when the sun is blaring down on you in this heat, and there is no real shade in sight. Sun screen and water regardless, you don't want to create a negative impression about floating. Choose wisely.
buckcreekmike Posted July 24, 2016 Author Posted July 24, 2016 Long story short, it was hot, and I didn't/couldn't fish too hard. Saw a few, had a bite or two, but I got goose egged.
