grizwilson Posted August 5, 2016 Posted August 5, 2016 Not to start a rivalry as I am a member of both TU (White River Chapter) and Missouri State Trout Fisherman's Association, proud to be affiliated with both. The Springfield Chapter is planning a meeting at the Branson Lion's Club, September 1, 2016 from 6-9 the following is from the MSTFA August newsletter: "Branson: If you were at last month's club meeting, you already know this. We have determined that we will expand the Springfield chapter into Branson with the expectation that they will petition to break away from Springfield in a year or so. The executive committee met to discuss the issue and voted to approve the plan We have formed a Branson committee for oversight. I then presented it to the club at the members' meeting. There were a lot of questions and uncertainties about how it would work. Basically, Branson will not be separate from the Springfield chapter, but will be an integral part of the Springfield Chapter. There will be one budget, one club but two meetings, one in Springfield and one in Branson. If they ever want to hold a fundraiser, it will be a club fundraiser. If the Branson group want to control a "Branson" line in the budget, (perhaps to hold a social function in Branson), it would be up to the club as a whole to approve or not. They will not have separate officers but can serve in any of those functions if they want. One exception is that the oversight committee will appoint someone from the Branson area to hold monthly meetings there in lieu the club president or vice-president when necessary. We will hold the first Branson meeting on September 1 at the Branson Lion's Club meeting room. Hopefully, our current members will carpool down so that we can tie flies, teach fly tying, maybe rod building, meet and greet, tell fishing stories, etc. during our social hour. I'll conduct the meeting to explain who we are and how we operate. I hope to have Russ Doughty available to discuss Healing Waters there as well as Ralph Eichholz to discuss our MSU fly fishing class. We'll hold another meeting in October, then have our chili feed at Lake Taneycomo which they will be a part of. I think that timing is good: a couple of recruiting meetings, then a social function...." Both groups have good programs and good folks to fish with and knowledge to share. http://dev.mtfa-springfield.org/ http://www.whiterivertu.com/ Hope the Branson TU gets going, we are all in this together. “If a cluttered desk is a sign, of a cluttered mind, of what then, is an empty desk a sign?”- Albert Einstein
